The Black Hat SEO Keyword Tool is pretty nifty for getting a quick list of related keywords.

I have no idea why it's called black hat, since it's pretty straightforward - nothing sneaky about it.

Speaking of keyword tools, Microsoft AdCenter now has a free keyword tool, Ad Intelligence, that provides a plethora of granular data on given keyword phrases. The SEO Book author Aaron Wall calls it "kickass" after doing some research on it. You have to have an AdCenter account, which costs $5, but do a search on Google for AdCenter and you'll find several sources for the $50 coupon (a nice freebie).

Kay - I wonder how that list is generated? Do you think it is based purely on number of search requests?

It must be Ryan. I can't figure out how it works. I guess that's the 'black hat' part.

Kay - I only asked because the results are considerably different than Wordtracker, or some of the other more popular keyword tools.

Kay - You are a veritable fountain of information!  Thanks so much for sharing.

So Ryan, was that a trick question? Hmmm? It's quick and dirty, and gives you at least a starting place.

Marlene & Russ - you're welcome.

Kay - I can't help that I am tricky LOL... No, it wasn't meant to be a trick question. Simply an observation.

Great little tool.  One thing that it seems to validate is that "city" real estate is a very searched term. When I put in Bethesda real estate, there are a gazillion other city real estate terms that come up as related.

Konnie - no no don't just throw them in there. For one thing, most search engines don't even read the keyword meta tag. Use it to help you determine the best keywords for your site. You may see some there that you never thought of - like Josette mentions in her comment.

Josette - yes, I like that it comes up with so many related terms. Gives you so more keywords to research.

Kay when you say "for the site" you mean the content of my site...when I write the content, include these words (btw, thank you for being so patient with us novice seo's)

Konnie - Yes, the content of your site, but also the titles, etc. Take a look at the blog I just posted...it should help you.

I read my server logs and I have found them to be a great resource for keyword analysis.  The great thing about them is that they give you an early warning sign as to emerging keywords that may not have been used as much in the past.  It can be pretty boring at times, but it will help give a good command over what people are looking for.  I also do this for referring URLs from my various pay-per-click ads.

This is a black hat site that the generator came from.  Its just looking for search terms but be weary when using anything that states BLACK HAT.  Trust me my husband is in computer security.  I went to the site this generated from and it does details some "black hat" terminology.  The main site does show some cheats.  Be weary.

We have many trust worthy SEO generators like the one you provided.  I would stay away from anything that states black hat.  My husband is a white hat so if you have any questions about computer security (which is a huge issue for us all) then let me know.

Thanks for the tips

I would never give out a link that was a security issue...I checked this site out beforehand.

Margaret, that is smart. It will also tell you if you're not being found for the keywords you want and you can modify your site to target them.
