Take a Close Look at Your Entry

doorSummertime is a busy time in real estate in Colorado.  The flowers are blooming and the lawns are green and lush.  With all that growing, comes lots of insects.

Many of us are spoiled by our garage door openers and never enter our home through the front door.  If your house is on the market, all the potential buyers are entering through your front door.  Make sure to go out your front door and turn around and look closely.  Have the spiders created cobwebs around your windows and doors?

I was showing a home the other day with an entry way covered in cobwebs and dirt.  The home was lovely inside, but the first impression was not great.

We only get one chance to make a GREAT first impression.  Make sure your entry way is clean as a whistle and inviting.  Take down the “No Soliciting” signs and roll out the welcome mat.  In fact, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to replace the welcome mat.  You can find a bright, inviting welcome mat for under $20.00.

If you have cobwebs and dirt in your entry way, get the garden hose and wash everything down.  The buyer’s will have a much better impression of your home if the entry is spic and span and friendly.

You're right first impressions are everything and we only get one shot so make it count!  A new, cheerful rug never hurts either :)  Agreed -

Curb appeal and first impressions are key - it can also be an easy fix to create the right first impression! Regards Dave

Belinda, What are the sellers thinking or not thinking to let this one detail go unattended to? That all important first impression is crucial to set the stage for the rest of the showing.

Hi guys.  I guess I should have shot a picture of the gross entry way but I left my phone in the car and didn't want to be too obvious.

So true, with most people using their garage door entry, they miss seeing the front door altogether.  Great advice!

Hi Belinda - That's great advice. The walk up to the house and the first ten feet inside the door are critical to a successful showing, and homeowners never think about that.

You are so correct about this! We NEVER go through our front door as we always enter the garage and the few times I have had to answer the door, I too have run into cob webs. Thankfully we are not selling our Glen Allen Virginia home, but if we were this would be a good place to start in that all important curb appeal factor!

Very good advice for home sellers.  The first impression is so important.

Have an outstanding week with your camera in hand.

I just walked around my front entry and was disgusted by the dead bugs all around.  Coming in daily from the garage is convenient, but it's nice to know what visitors see when they approach our front door.

I use my front door but I know a lot of folks who enter through the garage, just like you said.

I don't care how many times this issue is written about some sellers never get it.

Howdy and evening Belinda

Belinda my friendit sure is mighty important for folks listing or have their home list, to be sure that their home's entry makes a good impression to the Home Buyers that look at the home.

Have a good one

BB, so true! A front entry is part of curb appeal and is a huge first impression! Something simple as hosing off the deck, as you suggested, is free!
