Dog Fire RescueIn pondering the Aurora, Colorado terrible shootings story over several days I thought what could I write about that many others had not discussed?

In my mind it kept coming back to the fragility of life and KNOWING very clearly in your mind what counted, what you could not live without, what is meaningful in your life, and LIVE accordingly. So think for yourself

What Things Couldn't You Live Without?

It seems like it's physical and then also social categories.

  • Oxygen, water, food
  • Warmth or Cooling
  • Shelter
  • Security
  • Health, then
  • Love
  • God or your Higher Power
  • Significant Other
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Pets
  • Fun and enjoyment
  • Money
  • Internet?? (ha ha) seriously many of us would feel deprived
  • And then into the silly realm, toothpaste, haircuts, toilet paper?

But if you did see the shocked famiies following the shootings, well you picked up on the LOVE between people when confronted in a life and death circumstance. Life and death makes things VERY CLEAR to us. Life has beginnings and endings, but that LOVE thing remains, almost like the scent of a rose on your hand when you give it to someone.

Beyond the basics, REMEMBER that importance of LOVE....... not looking for that someone you can live with, but that someone you can't live WITHOUT. Often with MANY of these things you can't live without, there is a MOMENT in your life, when they walk in, and you REALIZE you did not know what you were MISSING....

TILL THEY ARRIVED.

From that point on, NEVER TAKE IT OR THEM for granted, for as the shootings illustrated, nothing is guaranteed for us forever......

Gary-Life is so precious, frail and can be short. LOVE is the MOST POWERFUL emotion of all. Everything else pales in comparison.  Great thoughts rolling around in that wily head of yours. Glad to know there are other things besides. WELL YOU KNOW. LOL

You make a joke of people needing the Internet but many really would be lost :) The list you created is pretty solid. It's sometimes not until you lose something that you realize how much you need it. Can't imagine losing a loved one to such a tragedy.

I hold the one I love very close to me everyday. I only wish my dad lived closer to me so I can have him around too. Great post.

We have had so many friends and people in our area lately that have had tragic circumstances happen in the last week and they, like the Aurora tragedy, have us remembering and treasure how precious life and love are. Great post Gary.

Gary - good list to think about. I feel "right to personal space" might be added. Tragedies are often invasions of personal space ~ our healing of them is its re-establishment.

I will agree with most of your list.  It just depends on where you decide to live.

Yes, I know all too well that we must love those around us while we can. You just never know.

Gary, It's terrible that it takes such a horrible tragedy for us to take stock in our lives, look around and realize how truly blessed that we are.  We take so much for granted. It's sad.  And, the poor families and friends of the victims of the Colorado shootings must be having a horrible time trying to make sense out of any of it.

Hi Gary, What always pleases me so much with what you write in your posts is that you understand and grasp life and can express it so well.

Hi Gary, I think in these horrific moments we see that life is a temporary thing, so it's right to not take it for granted or the people in it that we love, either.  I haven't been able to put my thoughts together about this tragedy-  I think you did an excellent job.

OMG......so true.  We do each day go forward thing, "oh well just another day"  and taking things for granted.  We should all be thankful each and every day for the things we do posess.  Health, food, our pets, our kids and whatever else we have.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Lord for this day, a gift indeed.
