Silverton Business Group

The group meets every Wednesday morning from 8 to 9 am at Silverton Inn & Suites. Stacy Palmer is the leader for July. The program this week is the Apple Tree Gang from Silverton Together which is collecting school supplies for local students. Attendees are encouraged to bring in school supplies.

July Chamber After Hours with Mt. Angel Chamber
Thursday, July 26, 5:30 to 7:00 pm – Silverton and Mt. Angel Chambers will hold a joint after hours on the terrace at Creekside Grill. This is a great opportunity to get better acquainted with our neighbors to the north in a beautiful outdoor setting along Silver Creek.

August Forum Lunch
Friday, August 10, 11:45 – 1:00 pm – Our speaker is Marion County Treasurer Laurie Steele. She will be speaking on fraud prevention and detecting counterfeit currency. Lunch is in the conference rooms above the Birth Center at Silverton Health. Cost for lunch is $10 with a reservation (503-873-5615 or respond to the Constant Contact email) by Tuesday, August 7.

Movies in the Garden at The Oregon Garden every Thursday through August 26

Silverton Arts Association presents The 2012 Silverton Plein Air Outdoor Painting Event: Artists to paint on location.
Artists from the Mid-Willamette Valley are invited to paint outdoors “en plein air” at several beautiful and one-of-a-kind locations in and around Silverton during July and August. Locations include: Flower Fields July 27th, GeerCrest Historic Farm August 2, Gallon House Bridge August 11, and Silver Falls State Park August 27th. A onetime fee of $20 covers all locations and entry to the final juried show. The first 10 participants to register will also receive 2 8x8 birch painting panels on which to paint their plein air pieces. A reception and awards presentation will also be held. Silverton Farmers Market 
The market is open 9 am – 1 pm every Saturday in Town Square Park. The market features produce, plants, flowers, baked goods, coffee, jam & jelly, and more. Mandalas with Elijah Neves at Silverton Arts Association
Saturdays, July 28 and August 4 10:00-12:00 Cost: $40 members/$55 nonmembers (cost includes both sessions) From the classical Indian language of Sanskrit, “mandala” is loosely translated to mean "circle." Describing both material and non-material realities, the mandala appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community. Learn the techniques of creating a fully symmetrical mandala design using watercolor and acrylic. 

Art of the Pioneers Camp at Silverton Arts Association
July 30-August 3 10:00-noon $65 members/$85 nonmembers Play games and create toys, just like kids on the Oregon Trail! Spin wool, identify and make use of beneficial plants, make handmade toys and games and much more in this low-tech camp for creative kids ages 6-12. 

Da Vinci Kids camp at Silverton Arts Association
July 30-August 3 1:00-3:00 $65 members/$85 nonmembers So popular last summer, we’re bringing it back! Art, invention, science, architecture, and more of Leonardo Da Vinci’s work will be featured and celebrated in this camp for kids ages 6-12. 

Big Art Week camp at Silverton Arts Association
August 6-10 9:00-1:00 $130 members or $170 nonmembers A brand new camp of epic proportions! Four amazingly talented instructors take turns teaching tons of different art techniques! This 4-hour camp includes drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, puppet-making, set design, and so much more. Every day, every hour is new and inviting, fun and exciting! Best of all, the week culminates in a performance for friends and family showcasing campers’ art, skills, and talents. For kids 6-12.

Retirement Celebration for Police Chief Rick Lewis
Thursday August 2, 4:00 to 6:00 pm – Silverton Police Chief Rick Lewis has served 38+ years in law enforcement. Please join us as we bid happy retirement to Chief Lewis at Seven Brides Brewing, 990 N First St. No-host bar, hors d’oeuvres provided.

Swearing-in Ceremony
Friday August 3, 3:00 pm – Captain Jeff Fossholm will be sworn in as Chief of Police in the Silverton Community Center Council Chambers, 421 S. Water Street. The general public is invited and refreshments will be served. 

Homer Davenport Community Festival Kick-Off Party
Thursday August 2, 6-10 pm in Coolidge McClaine Park - The party is open to the public (21 & over). There will be food, music, a beer garden and wine. Tickets are $5 per person and are for sale now at the Chamber office, Mac’s Place, the Wooden Nickel and Roth’s.

First Friday at Lunaria Gallery 
August 3, 7-9 pm “Illumination” by artists Jane Godfrey & Sondra Radcliffe, and Maya Trysil. Godfrey and Radcliffe will be exhibiting a new line of plates and bowls in a palette of delicious luminous colors, along with their multi-colored fused glass landscapes that give a feeling of depth and intrigue. Their abstract stained glass portrays sensitive fluid designs with the exciting hues of hand blown glass.
Maya Trysil's work focuses on the wild all around and within us. Glowing color and diffuse light permeate her acrylic paintings, delicate colored pencil renderings and digital art photography. Trysil's images are mysterious and rich in story.
The Upstairs Show: Dayna Collins “Layers of Memory” An archeological exploration incorporating wood, plaster, paint, words, and sometimes found objects. 

Homer Davenport Community Festival August 3, 4 & 5 
The festival takes place in Coolidge McClaine Park and other venues throughout Silverton. Arts & crafts fair, food, music, & kids activities take place in the park on Friday noon – 8 pm, Saturday 10 am – 8 pm, and Sunday 10 am – 6 pm. 

Saturday 10:00 am - Homer parade along Water Street, Oak Street and First Street. This year’s theme is “Silverton’s Sports History”. 
The Silverton Flywheels Classic Car Club Cruise- In takes place in Old Mill Park (between the swimming pool & the library) Saturday beginning at 9 am. 

Sunday morning - Homer Classic Fun Run starting & ending at Silverton High School 
Sunday: Davenport Races begin at 1:00 pm on Main Street in downtown Silverton. www.homerdavenport.com

Silverton Lions Club Harvest Breakfast
Saturday & Sunday August 4 & 5, beginning at 7 am – This breakfast of ham, eggs & pancakes has been served in the park for over 60 years.

Silver Falls Seasonal Walks
Silver Falls State Park is hosting a series of walks throughout the summer. Show up for the times below or call for reservations:
Wednesdays at 10:30 am - Magical Marshes is an easy one-hour walk through the park’s wetlands. It leaves from the Wood Shed in the campground.
Thursdays at 2:00 pm - Walk in the Mist Zone takes visitors behind South Falls for a two mile walk in the canyon explaining plants along the trail. The walk leaves from the South Falls Lodge.
Saturdays at 2:00 pm - A Walk Through History is a one-hour walk featuring the historic buildings in the day-use area & includes an 8-minute film on the history of the park. It leaves from the Lodge and is an ADA accessible easy walk.

Annual Fundraiser Benefiting Frank Lloyd Wright’s Gordon House
Sunday, August 12 from 3 to 6 pm – The family afternoon includes local Willamette Valley farm fare, delicious food prepared by northwest chefs, and Oregon beer, hard cider, and wine served in a festival atmosphere around the Gordon House. Silent and live auctions; restaurant and winery tour drawings; and bluegrass troubadors add to the festivities. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 for two and $60 for a family.
