Earthquake Map Intermountain West

My hobby is the observation od seismic events (earthquakes) on a weekly basis in the Intermountain West.

My normal observation is the Intermountain Corridor (Utah to Yellowstone).

During the last week the US Seismic Service recorded 26 events (22 UT, 3 MT, and one yesterday in Leadore,ID, a 2.3) all in the micro range. Utah's largest event was also a 2.3 at Trenton UT, last Wednesday.

This week I have used the map of ANSS (Advanced National Seismic System) which nicely includes my major area of interest as well as recording activity in surrounding States. This map shows 64 events for the week, another 38 more than accounted for in my area. 33 of these events (all micros) occurred along the western border of NV.

Sometime I enjoy the bigger picture when observing these natural phenomena. Somehow the maps I choose have my location nicely in the middle.

As always my intent is to observe and inform, never to alarm.

How are you bumping along in your neck of the woods?

Larry, got me convinced the earth is always shaking. It is only when the common man can feel that "shake, rattle and roll" that we hear anything about it! Keep us informed! Enjoy your day!

Clearly there is more going on inside our planet than we are aware of.  It makes me think we should consider earthquakes more normal, rather than an out-of-nowhere Act of God.  Normal things, we prepare for.

"Luke"..... I feel a disturbance in the force!!  Anyone who doesn't realize that something "not normal" is going on isn't paying attention.  More earthquakes, tremendous violent storms across the country, floods.....  It might be time for everyone to be a little more observant!!

Larry, I enjoy checking in on your reports.  I lived in San Francisco many years ago and started thinking about this type of activity for the first time.  One of the cool things about being in ActiveRain is that we can read and learn a little about the rest of our great nation by a daily read!

Cheryl - on a weekly basis, I find it very interesting. Gets to you after a while. Easy to check back.

Wayne - Seems we are all moving. Occasionally news picks up on events; mostly they pass unnoticed.

Dianne - good point. Awareness leads to preparedness. General feeling - Not in My Back Yard. (NIMBY)

Jeanne and Ralph - I like to observe my surroundings. Nature is full of surprises on our living planet.

Barbara - thanks for checking in. You are right about the huge knowledge/interest base of ActiveRain. I rely on you for the  TX info. I've learned heaps.
