Similarities?? I think so ~ the HomeFinder.com Makeover challenge

I  recently read with interest a piece on the Eagle.  It was not that I see myself as a big bird.  It was that I saw similarities between the magnificent bird, his struggles and my business life.  All this spoke directly to the Homefinder.com makeover so here we go.

This bird frequently lives to be about seventy years old (fortunately neither has achieved that goal yet.)   That is if he is willing to make some major physical modification in himself at about forty years.

The modifications sound somewhat brutal!  On the other hand,  when we undergo major change of any kind it tends to rock our world and that's just what this makeover is doing for us.

Imagine spending 150 days removing major body parts and waiting for them to regenerate (kind of scary!!  Right?).  When we have major surgery at least we have anesthesia and pain pills to help us through.  I wonder if it will take us 150 days to remake ourselves?

The eagle first knocks his beak off by hammering it against rocks.  That makes root canals seem tame by comparison!  (No root canals ever again for us!!  Please!!)

Then after the new beak grows in, he uses it to remove  his talons.  The talons  become weak over time those first 40 years.

When the talons grow back,  he plucks the old feathers off his chest.

When the renewal process is complete he spends time soaring. (Yeah!  We're gonna do that for sure!!)  Well deserved solitary time.  It is also worthy of note that he frequently soars above the clouds where the sky is always clear and blue!!

What a different perspective we would have if we could get above life's storms.

So how much change are we willing to make in our selves or in our businesses?  How much discomfort are we willing to endure?  We've become a little lax over the years so our goal is a complete remodel of ourselves and business.  Clothes, systems, equipment and methods.... hopefully we keep learning and growing in our business!

In our case with having had business since 1978 there have been a lot of advances in technology, techniques and tactics.  Have we chosen to embrace them as we discovered them?  Some.... but not everything.

Pounding off out beaks may not be practical.  It will however be good for us to reinvent some methods of attracting clients .  Utilizing the social media more effectively, updating our websites  and other contact technology is now a daily event.  We constantly reinvent our methods.  There are constant classes that we happily participate in.

Pulling out talons?  That has meaning on many levels!  How about finding ways to become more cooperative with fellow agents?  We can still protect our clients interests and watch our backs while we gain a reputation of being fun to work with.

Feather removal sounds like a wardrobe redo.  At this point we need to have an emphasis on a blend of professional with comfort.

Setting goals and time frames for soaring will be fun, not easy but fun none the less.  Incorporating all we have learned over the years and putting modern spins on them will result in many more years of productively being the who we were intended to be.   As long as we are above ground and able to consume nutrition we will seize the moments and fly high!

Hi Jeanne & Ralph,

You have quite a few similarities with the Eagle. I love birds and I spend my spare time taking pictures of them so your post interested me quite a bit. Good luck with the challenge. Happy Thursday.
