Historic Homes of Denver: Updates in the Mile High City - Hot Weather!

ThermometerAs anyone in Denver can tell you, this summer has been hot!  The month of June went into the record books as the hottest June ever for the Denver area. The month of July, so far, is on the same track.

A cool-off of any kind would be a nice break for the Front Range, and it looks like one may be arriving this week.  Last night we had some much appreciated rain, albeit slight.

Typically during the month of July, Denver's temperature averages 74.2 degrees.  As of July 23, 2012, the average monthly temperature for this year was 79 degrees.

If we continue on this track, that would crack a record set back in 1934. That year, Denver averaged a temperature of 77.8 degrees.  Up until 2012, 1934 went down as the warmest July in Denver history.

Another record that could be broken is one for 100-degree days. So far this season, Denver has seen 13 days at or above 100 degrees, which is the most 100 degree days Denver has seen during a single season since the weather service began reporting records in 1872.

Seven of those days have come during the month of July. This, so far, ties the record for most 100-degree days in July, set back in 2005. The record number for August is three - which happened back in 1878.

Temperatures are forecast to cool into the upper 80s and low 90s later this week.  The huge ridge of high pressure which has brought us the heat - and kept rain in the High Country - will shift east. Not only will temperatures cool off a little in the coming days, but our chances for rain will increase as well. They said that Wednesday would bring the best chance for rain late in the afternoon, so far, the rain has been a no show.

Friday and Saturday will be warmer. There is only a slight chance for isolated storms both days with highs returning to the middle 90s. Sunday could bring a better chance for rain in the afternoon with forecast highs in the low 90s.
