The Greater Clark school system had originally approved a plan for $169 million in renovations including a new Charlestown High School as well as major work to Jeffersonville and New Washington High Schools.

Opponents have already submitted a petition to stop the process claiming that the plan would put too heavy a burden on taxpayers.  With the original plan, it was estimated that homeowners with $50,000 of assessed property would see an increase of $128 a year and those with $250,000 would jump $1080 annually.

The two sides have tentatively agreed on a new plan for $100 million.  The new plan would mean $50 million instead of $70 for Charlestown High School, $40 million instead of $78 for Jeffersonville and $10 million instead of $19.5 for New Washington.

The opposition process has already started and cannot be stopped now, but opposition leader Kim Matthews said he and other opposition leaders would work to gain signatures in support assuming the two sides can come to an agreement.
