Home Sales Influence Jobs and the Economy in Hernando County, Florida

Moving Truck by Silvia DukesAs REALTORS® we provide our services in helping people buy and sell their homes and properties.  Most of the time, we mind our business and don't give too much thought how we impact others by "just doing our job!"  Part of that is often to provide buyers and sellers with names of local contractors and services for various jobs.

And it really is not just services and jobs that are directly related to the home sale such as movers, cleaners, title companies, mortgage brokers, insurance agents, appraisers, surveyors, home inspectors, and of course REALTORS® who benefit - those are the obvious - but there are a multitude of others that are influenced by a home sale.

This really hit home these past days after I had sold a home near my neighborhood in Hernando Beach, Florida.  Ever since the new homeowners moved in, I've been witnessing the various contractor vehicles parked in the driveway.

The following are just some examples of the services that have benefitted from this home sale in Hernando County already:

Locksmith, Painter, Tree and Landscaping Service, Electrician, Fencing Contractor.  Additionally, the buyers purchased new appliances and light fixtures, and are planning on adding a pool in the near future.

Homes for Sale in Hernando Beach Florida by Silvia DukesHaving said that, this is a home that was well maintained by the sellers but the new homeowners are now making it their own.  Imagine the impact the sale of a house that is in not-so-good condition can have on the local economy and jobs!

Sellers are also often using services based on recommendation by their REALTORS® in order to get their property ready to sell.  Even tenants sometimes use services such as home cleaning and lawn services that will provide additional jobs in the community.

Add to that roofers, tile and carpet layers, plumbers, and a multitude of other trades people who can potentially gain a job just from one home sale, it really demonstrates that buying and selling homes has far reaching effects that do not stop at the closing table but that generate future income for many others.

Best of all, most of these jobs are local jobs and much of the money that is earned will be spent right here in Hernando County, benefitting merchants, restaurants, and other services in our local economy.

Home sales do provide jobs everywhere and as REALTORS® we should be aware that we are a part of this process.

Joan, thank you. I think it's amazing how much new business one home sale can create, multiply that by all the transactions in a given time period and it becomes huge!

Silvia: What a wonderful thing to point out. Yes, these are local jobs that energize the local economy. And this makes an even greater impact on communities that had a lot of REOs, empty houses that now have people in them again that CONSUME. Even if property values are still low, this will build it back up.

Hella, you are right, those neglected homes and fixer uppers will produce even more jobs and income for people down the road.

Rebecca, thank you, it really shows how so many things are connected to the housing market!

Silvia, The real estate industry sets the wheels of motion moving forward for so many other industries. Often we don't think about all of the other contractors that are involved when a consumer buyers or sells a home.

Sandy, yes, that's just it, everything is connected to housing.

Kwee, thanks!

Toni, jobs and housing are definitely tied in more than one way and we are definitely contributing in working the housing market.
