The Power of Habit: why we do what we do in life and business by Charles Duhigg

the Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

Have you ever wondered why some people succeed when others fail? Why companies vary widely in their success?
Are you puzzled, like I am, why some of your own habits have fallen by the wayside?

I'm currently reading The Power of Habit: why we do what we do in life and business and finding it fascinating. Chapters like:

  • The Habit Loop
  • The Golden Rule of Habit Change
  • Keystone Habits
  • Starbucks and the Habit of Success

Have your highlighter or sticky notes at hand when you read. If you're like me, you'll find lots of 'meat' here, things you'll want to remember and incorporate in your business and life planning.

Happy reading!

I know that I change my habits from time to time only because I'm interested in constantly changing what I do.  Of course, adjusting habits is only useful if the change it good.

Lottie ... replacing bad habits with good ones is my challenge.  Knowing what to do and actually doing it.  We are habitual beings.  We can make that work for us in powerful ways or ... not!

I think so, Laura. It's sparking ideas for my business planning for the last part of this year.

Donna, if it's out, put in a hold request. It's really interesting and a quick read, too.

Lottie~ I put in a hold request.  It's actually ok that they don't have it available.  I'm in the middle of reading Angels & Demons and I can't put it down!

Hi Donna -- Yes, the DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons are fascinating books. The Power of Habit is worth waiting for; if you read and enjoyed any of Malcolm Gladstone's books (Blink, Tipping Point and others) you'll like The Power of Habit equally well.

I have not read any of Malcolm Gladstone's books, but I do have the Tipping Point on my book list.  Finding time to read, especially business books is a challenge for me.  I need to set some goals so that I read one each quarter.  That seems manageable to me.

Donna, I mis-typed; author of Blink, Tipping Point, etc is Malcolm Gladwell. Vacation brain!
