I laughed at this too.
I remember my boyfriend teaching me to drive a stick shift in his corvette. He took me to a graveyard to learn. That way no other cars or live people around. I really think it was mostly so his car wouldn't get damaged.
LOL...you brought back my own memory of learning to drive. The first day I had to turn a corner, and I almost took out the stop sign at the corner as I went up and over the curb, across the homeowners lawn and down the other side of the curb. My teacher and the other students were mortified. So was I. But that time has passed, and now it's just a story to tell and laugh about.
I wish we could get more teenagers to realize that difficult times pass, and become our history to share with others...and perhaps these experiences also become something to laugh about later. Teenagers carry around such baggage.
LOL, Karen Anne. You just made me remember a time that I borrowed my Dad's car shortly after getting my driver's license at an early age from taking Drivers Education in the 9th grade. I offered to give some kids a ride home from church after choir practice one Wednesday night, and since the car wouldn't start. We had to push it down the hill to get it started, and off came one of the doors on the way down the hill. That was dangerous, scary, and hilarious all at the same time.
It doesn't really matter how you became a celebrity - just that you did. Love the old stories.
LOL Karen Anne! This is a funny memory of learning to drive! I can see it now!
OMG Karen... I am actually laughing out loud. No wait! I'm busting a gut laughing. I can't get the visual outta my head! Perfect way to end a stressful day.... :)
Good morning Karen Anne, Why is it, the days we want to forget are the ones we always remember the most!? :)
I can just imagine you at drivers ed, I had Sister Jochum next to me. No, I didn't hit a bus but I struggled with my parking. It seems that the better drivers became cheerleaders in my school as well. Did you get the ruler across your knuckles after hitting the bus?
Karen Anne, Just another thing that at the time you probably though it was the end of the world, but now, twenty years later, you can look back at it and smile.
Hey Karen, Hope you had a great day and are looking forward to a restful evening. I say this at 11pm. We both should be in bed.... Sleep is way over rated when your a Realtor® a blogging one that is :)
Thanks for sharing your story.
Have an outstanding week with your camera in hand.
We all seem to have our own claimed to fame. I rear ended a police car and the photo was in my high school annual. We didn't have YouTube back then just bad luck...
Karen ... Well, we have all been there! I was runner up for every "queen" and never won once! Those were the days! Great Post!
Lisa: I just took a peek at your picture. (I had to go to your RE/MAX website to find you. You hide yourself well.)
Heck, a series of second-place finishes for Homecoming Queen, and other miscellaneous "queen-ships" would put you in the Queen's Hall of Fame. Queens never hit busses. Prolly because they have someone else "driving their carriages." Good for you.
And... thank you for your kind words.
By the way, Lisa. I have just subscribed to your blog. I invite you to subscribe to mine.
KarenAnne, I remember when I first started driving my brother was in the car with me. I remember passing a car, then with my right signal on moved to the right lane....boy my brother yelled at me. I should have waited and moved over as the guy almost hit me from behind...unknown to me of course :) I've never forgotten this and ALWAYS watch before moving into the next lane to be sure I have enough space to move over.
Hi Karen Anne,
This is too funny and I hope the nuns gave you a passing grade as they can be strict. It brought back some funny memories of high school for me just reading your post. Have a great Sunday.
Hello Karen Anne ,
I remember my driving learning days. i have done a few things, hitting the pavement, forgetting to stop at stop sign. I guess i was just lucky to pass the test.
lol.. thanks for that story... I needed the chuckle tonight... I never took drivers ed.. sounds like it didn't do very much for you... hahaha
Karen Anne, I taught Drivers Education for 13 summers and it was actually the community ADULTS who were the danger when we were driving. It was always scary making a left turn at a traffic light while waiting in the intersection for the light to change for two reasons:
1. Some students would ask, "Do I have to wait on the oncoming cars?"
2. It was a game of chicken when the light turned red because some drivers would hit the accelerator way behind the intersection and run the red light BIG TIME!!!!. Very helpless for us all being trapped in the middle of the intersection trying to anticipate what the idiot oncoming drivers would do!!!
Your touching the bumper of the bus had to be traumatizing at the time for you at the time. Believe me, Karen Anne, it was a very minor thing in retrospect other than gaining you instant notoriety at school! In my prime I would spend EIGHT hours a day in the car teaching Drivers Ed! I know I couldn't sit that long now!!! BW
