HTML ... You May Want to Read This!!!!!!

YOU MAY JUST WANNA CHECK THIS OUT TOO!!!! CLICK THE LINK  ..... This is just a test

I am a beginner when it comes to HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), but using even the most basic tags can make your posts look intriguing! Scroll to the bottom for a better explanation :-)

So I decided to post this in hopes it will aid you in making your posts stand out!

You'll notice when you write your entries that you have a choice to use WYSIWYG or HTML.To enter your blog using HTML, you'll want to click the HTML tag prior to entering your text.

IF YOU'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE, HERE ARE A FEW TIPS BEFORE YOU START:

  • If you don't use the proper tags/codes, your entry will run together and it will NOT look like you thought it would.
  • It is much easier (I have found) to pre-type your entry using something even as simple as "notepad", then all you have to do is copy and paste it.
  • It is EASY to get lost when typing HTML! (With all the codes floating around in your story or even your sentence, it can get confusing....
  • All codes begin with < and end with > and to stop a feature you will use </> Example: <center></center>
  • Practice makes near perfect LOL

So here are some basic codes to get you started:

  • <b></b>

To make words bold simply use <b> at this point your words will be bold until you use </b>

  • <i></i>

Text is Italic

  • <center></center>

To center an object or sentence <center> and </center> to end the justification

  • <p></p>

Will begin new paragraphs (ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TAGS IN MY OPINION)

  • <br></br>

Will start a new line but NOT make it a new paragraph

  • <h1></h1>

Code used to create a heading: h1 is the largest... you may also use h2,h3,h4,h5 and h6 (the smallest)

  •

Will add superscript to your sentence

  •

Will add subscript to your sentence

  • <small></small>

Will make you text smaller

  • <big></big>

Will make your text bigger

  • <a href="lastpage.htm">This text</a> is a link to a page on this Web site.

Will appear as This text is a link to a page on this Web site.

And last for now FONT COLOR :-)

  • <font color=blue></font>

Just choose your color and type away BUT REMEBER if you do not end it with </font> it will carry throughout your entire blog entry and EVEN IN TO YOUR COMMENTS :-)

Have fun! I have found the easiest FREE HTML Tutorial website is http://www.w3schools.com/html/

EXAMPLE WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY TYPE IN THE HTML SECTION.......

<center>So You Have Had a Wonderful Day...</center><p>And now you want to tell the <b>WORLD</b> about it!<p><i>Of course this little blurb is not going to make any sense</i> <b>It is only meant to show you the proper placement of <u>HTML</u> tags</b>

WILL LOOK LIKE THIS WHEN YOUR BLOG IS POSTED ON THE WEB......

So You Have Had a Wonderful Day...

And now you want to tell the WORLD about it!

Of course this little blurb is not going to make any sense It is only meant to show you the proper placement of HTML tags

 (Hope that makes sense :-)

Sara, thanks for posting this as a handy reference.  I've gotten very spoiled with ActiveRain, and most of the time I let it do all the work.  But you need those HTML tags for headers and colors.  I'll definately bookmark this for a quick and handy reference.

Thanks. This site is so helpful you don't have time to search for anything! Is that a bad thing? Too much of a good thing? 8-)

Sara

Thanks for the primer on the ever loved or hated HTML code. You are so correct on this post that there is so much we can do and add to our site with just a few little additions. It can be frustrating at times if you leave one of those little tags out of whack.

That is one of my goals this year to utilize it much more.

Thanks

SARA - These are some very helpful, easy-to-use tips for HTML.  I've figured out a couple of these on my own, but it's nice to have a reference tool.

Sara - Good stuff. I used to have a web page company back in the 1990's. I didn't even think about using HTML in AR blogs. I wonder if Java Script works, too? Hmmm....

True... the HTML only works in the initial blog, but by some fluke I found that if I make my text in the blog purple and never use the end code, it carries throughout the responses as well.... Childhood Music Memories

Sara - Thanks for the great tips.  I really respect you for learing html.  I looked at it and it looks like shorthand to me.  lol   Maybe I am making it more difficult than it is.

I used HTML during my Christmas blogs and still use it on stuff like my buttons and love it. I certainly haven't taken it to the extent that you have. I can't wait to see what you create when get it down.

I dunno.... I have a love/hate relationship with computers LOL

HTML is like any other language to me... I like to know a little... but I don't think I will ever be fluent :0)
