What a Difference ONE Year Makes

It's difficult to believe that a year ago, I was in the hospital fighting for my life.  On July 27, 2011, I was very sick.  I was dehydrated, my lips were blue and my pressure was dangerously low.  I insisted all I need was some Sprite and Cheerios and I would be fine.  My husband, Rich wanted to call for an ambulance.  I kept saying no.  It wasn't until I passed out and fell that I said yes.  I was rushed to the emergency room.  I remember arriving and having about 15 people ~ nurses, doctors, technicians and who knows who else ~ surrounding me.

I was in the hospital a total of 17 weeks.  I was finally discharged 2 days before Thansgiving 2011.  It's been 8 months.  I'm much stronger now and I'm able to work (and blog) again.  My life has definitely changed.  I still have limitations and I have to remember that.  I want to be able to do the things I could do before my illness.  I'm sure with time, I'll be even stronger and life will return to a "new normal".

I'm meeting with my surgeon later this week.  I'm hoping for one more surgery that will help me to reach that "new normal".  For now, I'm just happy to be here.

Donna, I am sure that there are many, many folks on Active Rain who are "glad you're still here" as well.  Best of luck on your surgery.  Huggs to you...

Hi Carolyn~ I keep tearing up about this.  I'm so happy to know that I have such a great support network and I truly cannot believe that I survived.  I'm a little bit scared about the next surgery, but I'm confident that I need to do it.

Debbie~ It's been a rough day or two remembering last year. I don't remember much after the emergency room.  I was out for about 2 weeks.  My mom, sister and youngest son came from out of state to visit me and I didn't even know they were here.

Wow, I wonder why it is that we all feel the need to prolong a rush to the hospital. But we are truly glad you are here and I will say a pray for you tonight. Good luck

Barbara~ At least this time it will be a planned surgery.  No emergencies.  Thank you for your prayers.  I know they make a difference.

Thank you Charles.  It's easier to believe that Sprite and Cheerios can make it all ok.

Thankful to be here, Laura.  Thank you.

I have come a long way, Pam.  It's almost unbelieveable.

Teral, my sweet friend, it's through the power of prayer that I'm here to tell me story!

Donna, you went through so much, but thankfully survived those 17 weeks.   You had the power of prayer from all your friends, and so glad you are here today to talk about it!

Joan~ I'm still amazed by all the people that were praying for me.  Friends of friends, friends of family, family of friends...the list seems to be endless.

Hard to believe it was a year ago........that was a tough road you had a head of you once you got out of the hospital.  Glad things are going well.

Hi Donna - I didn't know you a year ago (in the AR sense), nor did I know until recently you had been sick - from what I've observed, you're doing a great job managing the trip back to normality and I wish you continued strength and success.

Hi, Donna...we will certainly have to talk. I'm glad you are here. I didn't get to know you until after your time in the hospital. I'm glad that turned out OK. I hope I will get to see you when I'm in CO Springs this Thanksgiving, or at the CAR convention. If not we have our own plan for CO AR members.

Roger~ Thanks to all my friends and family and the power of prayer, I'm still here and doing great (all things considered).

Thank you Dick~ Some of the story was shared here on AR while it was happening.  Many in my AR family were spreading the word and asking for prayers.  I know it made a huge difference in my recovery.

Chris Ann~ Who else would you abuse at Words with Friends?

Debbie~ Someday I'll tell you the story.
