Nick, All the comments are better than a 2nd gold star! This post is easily in our top 10 for response level, so obviously it's a theme that rings true with many Rainers. Keeping ourselves in line with the community norm has to be one of the tickets to admission here.
WOW! Bliz, You can see I have be AWOL for awhile since I missed seeing this post, and saw it as a re-blog from Kathy Streib. One would think that it just common sense or common courtesy not to leave any negative comments on a Public post for the whole world to see. It just lets me know that kind of person you are whenever you choose to use this forum to get your points across, instead of sending a private email, or writing your own posts, as you have suggested.
Jerry, Just not community oriented behavior is it? Rainers need to understand how things work and what we're here for. If you compete with someone directly, don't go on their posts and undermine them. Pretty simple concept. 99% of us are probably here to build our business and understand how this should work.
Hello Liz, and Bill,
Great post! I do think that we all have to be nice to each other...
Bill & Liz - Great post! I completely agree. We don't need to bash others publicly. Since we're talking about those wonderful life lessons we learned from our grandmothers (wouldn't they be so proud some of us listened?), My Grandmother always said when you point your finger at someone, there's four others pointing back at you.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Tatyana, There definitely needs to be some civility maintained. Disagreements will sometimes occur, but some level of politeness can still be maintained.
Carla, We need to remember that opinions can be formed of us with just one comment left. Good or bad, we'll be categorized.
Liz & Bill,
This is a great post, timely and accurate. This information should be incorporated into an Ethics Class and mandatory for all professionals.
Bravo!
Patricia, Whether real estate or outside of our profession, we keep seeing evidence that people don't realize the potential impact of their written comments and posts.
Ok. I won't do it any more.
Steve, Sure, you troublemaker! I don't think I've yet to see you leave a comment that is not constructive or an obvious joke :)
Johnnie "MAC": bringing this intense blog back! This is one of my very favorite blogs ever, just look at the comments, they speak loudly about this subject.
Jon, I saw the opposite occur this week. Author with a public post to the consumer, and the AR agents just buried the post with negative comments because they didn't agree.
Bill & Liz how did I miss all this?:)) Oh I was on vacation...BTW could you have AR make " Sandbox 101 " 1. Mandatory course prior to anyone being allowed to post or comment??2. Have a Demerit system like at school set up for violators?...oh I better watch it:)) I will just write my own post. Just kidding what a great post! I am here to say I Salute You! p.s.: love the comment thread too
Endre, We probably could collect some of our posts into a Sandbox 101 course :) And definitely, the comment thread on this one got more interesting than most of our posts!
Charita, Multiple sources for this one :)
Liz and Bill,
I've run into this situation more than once. I just bookmarked your post. If someone does that again, I'm going to delete it; then send them an email contact with a link to your post.
The last time I received some comments like that, I did email the individual and they STILL didn't think they did anything wrong. So I would like to add, if anyone gets the same kind of response, don't even bother to try to rationalize with them. Delete the comment from your post; delete the individual from your mind. It's not worth it to stew over stupidity.
Pat, I've encountered a few bloggers and commenters here and there that have behavior such that they're on a permanent no read list. Just too much negative energy created to waste time with them when there are so many better places to go. Fortunately we haven't had too many comments that really rubbed us the wrong way, but we've had a few. Our topics tend to be too neutral to give the hotheads much chance to vent.
I am bookmarking this one also. I wish I could have sent it to another member a while back when I had to email her about a mean comment she left. Too late now, but hopefully she follows your blog!
Rose, Even when they read it, they won't always recognize their behavior being called out.
