Kansas City Space Pirates climbing the next great step or ride along the Space Elevator

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Executives of Kansas City

The effort and successes of the Kansas City Space Piratea and their climber project speak highly of the Kansas City culture, Kansas City's progressive attitude.  The Kansas City Space Pirates were, imo, the most engaging team shown at the 2006 Space Elevator competition on the PBS Nova program this week.  Kansas City is an exciting, fun place to live and work with a welcoming real estate market.

The space elevator is a real project in which a team from Kansas City, The Kansas City Space Pirates, made a qualifying attempt to run their climber up the space elevator, along with other competitors from Germany, Michigan and California.  The January 9th, 2007 PBS NOVA program featured a competition held in November, 2006.  http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/

According to the Space Elevator Reference: " climbers will ascend a ribbon 100,000 km long, strung between an anchor on earth and a counterweight in space. Connecting Earth and space in a way never before possible, the space elevator will enable us to inexpensively and completely expand our society into space."   The Space Elevator Reference is a part of the Space Elevator site that will serve as a reference tool for those interested in the space elevator.

The Kansas City Space Pirates' climber did very well on the first competition. The KC Pirates are are seeking sponsorship for 2007 so they can continue the work.  They are selling/auctioning ad spots on the anchor, mirror covers, banners/flags on the bottom of the climber,  misc. places on the climber, T-shirts, website, truck, trailer, and other spots connected with the climber.  Their budget needs don't seem to be so outrageous.  I hope they get their funding. http://kcspacepirates.com/content/view/40/2/

The Space Elevator Primer explains about how the space elevator  ( carbon nanotube ribbon) works, what it weighs (plenty), how its consistency and density is close to that of  plastic kitchen wrap.

I'm glad to be involved in the real estate market for Kansas City and surround communities of Overland Park, Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe and Shawnee.
