626 Night Market in Pasadena

626 Night Market in Pasadena

Saturday, July 28 was the second 626 Night Market in Pasadena.   The event was held in and around Pasadena City Hall which provided more room and more vendors than the first 626 Night Market(held on Oakland Street between Colorado and Union in April 2012).

The idea behind 626 Night Market is to replicate the Night Markets held in many Asian cities. One of the goals of the 626 Night Market is to support local small businesses:  tasty food, exposure of new products, entertainment and a party-like atmosphere.

Here are just a few images of the festive atmosphere of the 626 Night Market in Pasadena.

What a great idea!    This could be emulated in many communities.

Hello Li -- you are so right, I can see this concept being expanded in many different ways.

Hi Michael-This is pretty interesting. I have seen many farmers markets and even carnivals with all these types of vendors but have never seen it to promote the businesses in the area. Also never would have thought about having it at night. I hope it is a great success. Have a great Sunday afternoon.

Hi Sharon --- the first event in April was described by the local newspaper as being both a success and a disaster --- success because it was so well attended and a disaster due to overcrowding, food shortages and parking issues.   This time it was moved to a more visible location --- more space, more vendors and better publicity(I used the Gold Line light rail system and avoided hunting for parking).

Hi Michael - Having been to the real deal several times in Asia, I am really envious of you - we have nothing like this anywhere around here. I wish we did  - it looks like an awesome event.

Michael - I love outdoor vendor festivals like this.  The Pasadena City Hall building is a really beautiful setting for this event.  Hopefully they won't wait 3 more months before holding the next 626 Market event!

Hi Dick -- so far the Pasadena event is the only one in Southern California.

Hello Laura -- Pasadena City Hall and the Civic Center area was the perfect backdrop for the event -- large enough and easily accessible.   On the 626 Night Market facebook page many others echo the same sentiment that the event should occur monthly -- I'll keep everyone posted in advance of the next event.

Michael, now that looks like a blast.  And, I could wear my ankle bracelet with the bells on it!  I hope you had fun and found some bargains, too!

Great event!  I would hope that they will continue to schedule these.  Especially since they are as big a hit.  And, your photos were great!

Suzanne -- there were some long lines at the food booths and food trucks and lots of happy faces.  I'm sure you would have had a lot of fun.

Don -- there's always something to do in Pasadena and I'm sure there will be more 626 Market Nights in the city's future if last night's response is any indication.

Hi Jeffrey -- late yesterday I saw the crowd was estimated at approximately 40,000 were in attendance -- you definitely would not have been alone.
