I Saved a Dragonfly Today....Will I Have Good Luck?

Early this morning I was out in the yard hosing off the patio and surrounding areas of the pool when I spotted a dragonfly floating in the pool. Now most of you that follow my blog I normally run and get my camera and get the shot but this time I thought I should try and save the insect as they are one of my favorites. I ran and scooped it out of the pool and much to my surprise it started moving immediately. Then I ran and got my camera.

Rushed back and took some pictures and then nudged it a little and off it flew but only to my umbrella about 50 ft away. I took a few more pictures and then left it alone.

About an hour later, when the dragonfly had dried out completely, it circled the pool, then around my head several times, like it was saying "thanks for saving me" and off it went. I think there is a nest somewhere nearby.

I adore dragonfly jewelry and have about 10 pins to wear on my suits. I also like butterfly pins too.

I wonder if saving the dragonfly will bring me good luck?

I love Dragonflies and how they come in a plethora of colors - Red, Green, Brown, Purple, etc. They rank right up there with Butterflied, but give a more mystical feel. Karma is one of those things I believe in. You did the Dragonfly good, perhaps it will provide you with good luck.

I have saved 22 Honey Bees from drowning in the swimming pool at my health center this season. I hope they provide me with honey this winter:-)

While the Dargonfly may not be autorized by G to give it to you, within you has the ability to accept it because in the scheme of things, your actions made a difference as much for the attitude as the event itself. Yes I do too. They like to buzz the pool all the time but not usually my head so it was doing something out of character. I would have been so sad if it died. Dumb but true!

Hi Myrl,

Yes it is good to save honey bees as I keep reading where there is a shortage due to pesticides and weather. I hope they give you more honey this fall. I read where the fruit does better if you have more bees in your yard so I bought two verbena plants to add some more bees. I won't know until next spring if it helps.

Yes I think you are right. I believe in prayer and also in the power of positive thinking. I did not save the dragonfly to give myself good luck but I will take it if it comes my way. I was so excited to get close-ups as I usually get 20-50 fly bys that are 100% non-usable or should I say non-publishable.

Thanks so much for stopping by to comment. Yes they are very entertaining to watch and I am constantly looking for their nests. I heard they put it in the water but it is not in my pool so it must have found someones still water or a fountain somewhere? I keep looking.

We are like dragonfly sisters! I have always loved them and I have a very special dragonfly pin that I wear on special occasions. I have never been able to take a good picture like that. You did a great job and you're my hero because you saved a dragonfly.

YES! That dragonfly circled around you to say thanks! I do believe that. You must have felt like you had butterfly wings and you were lifted off the ground at that moment! I wonder if you'll see it again. Something tells me, it'll be back!

Hi Patricia,

I had a special dragonfly pin and I knew I left it on one of my jackets. The cleaners said they did not have it and I was so upset and they had the nerve to tell me they had it but lost it. I had decided to find a new cleaners but continued to go there for 2 more months. So I was walking in to pick up clothes and left my dirty ones in the car as I have made the decision just now..today will find a new cleaners. Walked in and the girl goes "aren't you the one who lost their dragonfly pin?" Yes! And then I heard those magical words "We found it and I will go and get it right now. Here!" I was shocked. My mother had given me this as one of my last gifts before she died so it was so special. I still have it and I keep it put up very carefully now.

I hope to see my new found dragonfly friend. I will keep my eye out for it.

I love dragonflies too. And I saved the life of a dragonfly also! It was face down in a small amount of water on top of my garbage cart. I got it out and nudged it a couple times. It literally exhibited the same behavior humans exhibit when coming out of unconsciousness. It shook its head slowly. I moved it to top of my car trunk so it could dry off. It did and flew away.
