"Luck is a tag given by the mediocre to account for the accomplishment of genius." Robert a. Heinlein

Have you ever looked back on something that you achieved and wondered why you were so successful? When you look back at your successes and the things you've achieved in your life and you look for the reasons why you succeeded, you'll find that most often it wasn't just luck.

Some, if not all, of the following were involved:  Knowledge, Skill, Commitment, Motivation, Energy, Confidence, Resilience, and a belief in yourself and  what you were doing.

It’s not hard to see why we succeed. What is hard is explaining why we don't succeed all the time. Quite often people will say, "Oh, that would be too hard for me," or "That would take too much effort." But would it really? Because the truth is that each one of us has a wealth of abilities, energy and skills, but most of the time we only use a fraction of this wealth.

This incredible wealth of untapped resources is called "Human Potential." How much we use of it depends, more than anything else, on our belief system.

If we believe there is no way around a problem, we close our minds to possible solutions. But if we believe we will find a way, then it doesn't matter what obstacles we run into. We get very creative. We see things we wouldn't ordinarily see, and we hang in there and get others to help us until we do find a way.

Remember, the most powerful thing you can do to change your life is to change your beliefs about life and begin to act accordingly.

Great post! Thank you.  As the great Lou Tice would say " All meaningful and lasting change begins on the inside and works itself out".  If you want to improve look at yourself. It's not always the situation.  Have a great day!

What a fantastic post! I've never been a fan of the phrase "good luck".  I usually don't use it but instead will say: "I'm not going to wish you luck because you have skill. Go get 'em!!".  :-)

Richard and Beth- Very inspiring post.  I can remember when I was young that I would always say to myself "Where there's a Will there's a Way".   When I've looked at the lives of many successful people one common thread was that they believed in themselves and kept their mind open to solutions to puzzles and new ideas.

Hi Collette... You betcha... every day is a gift...

Brenda... I also dislike people telling me how lucky I've been... I can deal with being blessed but not lucky...

Hi Kathy... I think a tremendous amount goes into making successful people successful and to much credit for their success is given to luck and not enough credit given to effort by the masses...

Great Post Richard & Beth,

One may theoretcially want to take it a step further and say "don't Blame anyone for anything". Blame reduces ones power. It assigns cause to someone else and assigns self as effect of that cause. (ie - if you want to make your self weaker and someone else stronger - just blame them for things and situatuions).

Accountablilty is so important. You have be able to accept your failures and successes. Don't get too high on the things that work great, and don't get too low on the things that don't. I've taken my athletics background and my thought process and adapted them to business. So far, it's working great.
