Stowe Vermont - After the Storm Photo

The Stowe, VT area had some severe thunderstorms last Sunday night - July 29th, 2012.  They hosted some strong winds, very dark and fast moving clouds, lighting hitting so close that you are scared to look to see if anything was hit, and thunder so loud you feel the house shake.

Actually, I like thunderstorms - unless they are in the middle of the night.   They usually mean the end of a heat wave.  What I find so incredible though is "after" the thunderstorms.  The clouds, the smells, the various shades of color in the sky after they pass through, and the variances in the light.

After the storms, I went out and took some photos.  It was beautiful out.  Most of my photos look great in color, but there was one that was just asking to be black and white.  I just saw an ActiveRain group for black and white photographers.  I really liked what I saw and joined the group.  This is my first black and white photo on ActiveRain.  I hope you photographers like it!  Also, I think it's a nice photo of a field in Stowe Hollow, Stowe, Vermont.

Kristin - thanks for the note!  I love b&w photos too!  I received an invite to a different group and couldn't find that group under the list of groups.  It is hard to find specific groups.  Maybe someone knows a good way, but I don't.  Anyway, while I was going through the groups, I found the black and white photos group, liked what I saw, and joined it.

Your amazing picture is testiment that every dark cloud has a silver lining.  Although your area has been heavily hit by these storms, they have made for astonishing photo opportunities.  I also agree that drama is added by presenting it in black and white.

Myrl - I like that - every dark cloud has a silver lining.  I could use some more silver linings right now.  Glad you enjoyed the photo!
