  Living on an island.

St Helena Island

Yes an island. A beautiful island nestled off the Severn River and Little Round Bay.
An island called St Helena with a history dating back to 1843.

It is believed that the first traces of the island were recorded in the land records of Anne Arundel County in 1843 yet there was no regular  movement on the island till almost 40 years later when in the 1920's Paul Burnett, a Baltimore city attorney and insurance executive, purchased the island. Within a few years Burnett built a magnificent Federal Period Mansion on St Helena island that still stands today along with numerous other structures, including homes, scattered throughout. After Burnetts death and sale of the property there was a period of time when the island was known for its swanky island club complete with a casino. The club regularly hosted gatherings for members of Congress, judges and Governors. But lo and behold the casino was in violations of local gambling laws and the machines and the owners were taken into custody. The owners were later convicted of illegal operation of slot machines on the island.  Ahh the stories of  the past are always so interesting.

There are more stories as St Helena has been an island that has brought much interest as a place for events other than just a home. None have prevailed and St Helena Island has remained an island of a few private homes with amazing water views. Currently the original mansion is on the market for $7,175,000.  Totally and completely updated this magnificent home is a jewel of the island.

Wow!  Living on St. Helena Island sounds like it would be awesome.  Between the seclusion of being on an island and the custom, historical mansion, no wonder the listing is priced over $7 Million.
