Don't overlook the details!

The selling process can be hectic, and this means that sometimes details can get overlooked. This is a huge mistake! The details can mean the difference between your home selling quickly and your home sitting on the market for years.

We eat with our eyes, and we buy homes with our eyes, too. Things like a burned-out light bulb or cracked paint are minor issues, but they can have a major impact on a buyer’s opinion of the home, because the buyer often assumes that these little issues are symptoms of larger ones. Here are some tips to help you get your house into Selling shape.

  • Kitchens and bathrooms sell houses. Pay extra attention to cleaning these rooms. If possible, have professional cleaners take care of them for you. You don’t want to lose out on a sale because of some dirty grout.
  • Clean all of your floors and replace any carpeting that needs to be replaced. These are things that any buyer will require you to do, and it’s much better to be proactive.
  • Get rid of any odors the house might have.
  • Make sure that the buyers wouldn’t have to paint before moving in. Use neutral colors, and paint trim a modern-looking white.
  • As we’ve discussed before, home staging is always a good idea! Furniture and other items help potential buyers picture what the house will look like when they fill it with their own things.
  • Walk through your house as though you're a buyer, scrutinizing every little detail. Make sure all the light bulbs are working, and all of the cabinet handles and doorknobs are securely attached. A loose cabinet handle can be enough to turn off a buyer , believe it or not.

You’ll need an agent who can help you get your home ready to sell. Make sure you pick one you can trust.
