Got A Call Today To Remove A Name From The Mailing Lists. Why? It Hurts!

realtor andrew mooers, mooers realty, houlton maineA real estate buyer called today and  let us know he wanted a name removed from the mailing list.  But its not like you think.  It was his wife who passed away recently which we would not have known about as he is not located in Houlton, Maine. He was not upset and asked us also to please keep emailing him more helpful detailed information on new property in Maine that we thought he might like to know about.  It was just that he asked nicely if we can just put emails in his name now, because seeing his late wife's name still hurts.  Understandable 100 percent. This buyer and new widower says he is more determined than ever to move to Maine which was the plan of both he and his wife.  Sometimes we get the other kind of email or call that say hey buster, remove my name because I've decided to move to Russia, etc.  Kinda said with a tone like you should have know that we moved last week and leaving us wondering how come this fellow thinks we automatically know unless cued in.  But because we deal with the public, the friendly and not so happy camper variety, we tell him no problem, sorry for any irritation, and good luck in the Soviet Republic or wherever planet he blasted off  to. Our loss is their ...well you call it what you will and I bet it revolves around a pain in the butt version of comments! Realtors don't just sell and help people buy property, they also have sensitivity and a caring heart in the process to know some of the customers are hurting with life events setting them back in the saddle a bit.  So when asked for a name removal, don't always assume you did something to bother them as they asked in the first place to be on the list.  And if they purchase somewhere else in Maine or your state, congratulate them, tell them you hope they are happy with the home and welcome to Maine..a great state to live, work and play in.

Totally understandable. We feel their pain when we hear about such sad situations.  I've had that happen as well with one spouse losing the other, and my emails reminding the surviving spouse of plans they had been making.

We've had this same situation. I guess we need to read the obits more.

We read the obituaries  locally and in state Maine ...its when the spouse of a prospect we don't really know seventeen states away dies...how would you  avoid causing anything causing pain like the reminder of a name of a loved one that won't be coming north with this soon to retire buyer?  Have to get out the bow and arrow, and in two years, help cupid along to just happen to help him meet a widow that was bluer than blue for the same reason.
