BOCA RATON SANBORN WALL

 

 Boca Raton , Florida played a major roll during WORLD WAR II  in the fact that the

 

ARMY AIRFORCE set up a base here for the training in a new technology called RADAR.

  One of Boca Raton's Historic Markers is located on the south side of the

 

BERESFORD CONDOMINIUM  at 350 S. Ocean Blvd. on the east side of the street.

 It is here where  GERMAN U- BOATS landed and occupied the home of Dr, William Sanborn.

 

 The home was built in 1937.

 

  The submarines were deployed as part of Hitler's OPERATION DRUMBEAT during

 

WORLD WAR II .

 They torpedoed tankers and freighters traveling the East Coast shipping lanes that were

SUNSET

bringing  supplies to the UNITED STATES and to England.

 

 Twenty four ships were sunk off the coast of Florida between Boca Raton and

 Cape Canaveral.
