The Right Way To Do Comparison Between People

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Little BallerinasIn looking around sometimes at how miserable people make themselves comparing themselves constantly to others it got me thinking of the Biblical story (Luke 18-9:14) of the Pharisee praying and the tax collector at lower steps of the temple. Some think they are so much BETTER than others, than those rest of men, unjust, extortioners, adulterers, or even a tax collector. This story more had to do about praying and a humble heart but the reality is some other people make you feel superior to them while others you will feel inferior with your own traits relative to them.

The Right Way To Do Comparison To Other People?

        Don't.

But alternatively, compare yourself to who YOU YOURSELF were yesterday. Frankly there will always be someone that seems more good than you, more bad than you, prettier than you, uglier than you, smarter than you, dumber than you, better values than you, horrendous way of living compared to you. Well you know what? That is them. Not YOU!!! Comparisons between people in life are NORMAL.

Note differences with other people, but do not dwell on them. Dwell on YOU, and being a better YOU today than you were yesterday.

Gary - great words of wisdom (as usual) and I agree wholeheartedly - don't compare yourself to others, but set your own bar and try each day to top it. Competing with yourself is the best way to get ahead and feel good about yourself! Have a great day!

Gary, good thing to remember, sometimes we get so caught up in the competition of this business we forget who we are competing for and against.

Gary,

Great insight for a society that is becoming more and more intolerant of other people, and their beliefs.

Wow! You brought to mind a colleague in our office who consistently puts herself above all others. Thanks for the reminder to keep my focus off her and where it needs to be instead.

I think it's human nature to compare, but you're right in that you should be comparing yourself to only yourself.

Gary, I do believe that people need to take care of themselves rather than making an unreasonable comparison to others. Accountability and responsibility to yourself are important aspects in the growing process!

If I start comparing me to you, I become judgemental. Who am I to make that choice?

I liked what you said about working on ourselves Gary, there's plenty of room for improvement there. I may not have time to compare myself to others.  :)

What wise, wise advice for a sunday night! I compare myself to others far too much... sometimes it makes me feel bad, but other times, it might inspire me to action. I love the idea of just attempting to be a better me!
