Nothing to do with real estate...

OK, this has nothing to do with real estate but I felt it was worth sharing.

I've spent the past six months going over the multiplication facts with my eight year old. I mean every night getting out the flash cards, having her write them down a bazillion times, etc. You name it we've tried it.

So my mom found this "game" on the internet called Timez Attack. At first I thought, "Yeah right, she's not gonna be interested in this game." My kids are used to the high tech graphics of the Nintendo and Playstation games. My mom kept prodding me to look into the site further.

So last night I decided to go check it out. The graphics were very good and the concept sounded intriguing.  It's actually similar to some of the video games that they play. You have to make your way through this dungeon and fight "monsters" which have the multiplication tables on the front of them. I got wrapped up in the game and watched her for three hours.

She didn't want to go to bed last night because she wanted to try to beat one more level. This morning she woke up two hours before school and started to play this game! I can't believe it but the multiplication facts are actually staying with her.

The game is a free download but if you want the upgraded version it's $24.99. This version just has more monsters to fight.

I'm usually skeptical about these kinds of games because we have a whole cabinet full of educational games that rarely get played but I'm sold on this one. Here's the link:

All you moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, I think this one's a winner.

Where was this post 2 years ago when we were struggling with this?    My son would have loved it and so much easier than the flash cards and "Oh Mom, no more" as we are driving....  Anything that can engage a child positively is a great thing!  Sounds like you found something wonderful... I will definately pass it along to some of my friends with younger children...

It's funny because when I showed her the site the first words out of her mouth were,"is this an educational game?"

On the way to the bus stop this morning I was reviewing with her the multiplication facts that she learned last night on the game. After rattling off about twenty of them in a row she paused and said, "Mom I had to bet a boss to learn these, don't ya think I know them?"

I thought it was kind of cute!

Anything to make this fun helps.  Used to be a teacher ages ago..the favorite was the nine table as they could use the hand method.  hold up ten fingers say nine x 1 and remove one finger...what do you have left or = 9 fingers and so on you get the picture.  Now the 1 you have left has to go in front of the next answer and then the 2 and then the 3.  So 9x2 (put down 2 fingers) you have 8 fingers left and you have to use the 1 from last time = 18.  Easy to show this then to describe it....
