What should you look for in a real estate professional? Well, the "key" word in that question IS professional. Merriam-Webster defines professional as:
- characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession
- exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace
Communication, not just with your client, but everyone in the homebuying or selling process is crucial; from returning calls from prospective buyers in a timely manner to staying on top of amendments that need signatures from the other agent and their clients, to scheduling an appointment with a home or termite inspector before your due diligence period expires. Communicating ensures that the transaction goes smoothly and efficiently; making the whole experience comfortable and as stress free as possible not only ensures happy clients but also loyal ones.
Honesty and integrity are an integral part of what a real estate agent should have to offer. Often times, our clients simply don't understand the market or current trends. It is our responsibility to educate them, even if it's telling them something they don't want to hear. Being realistic about how much to list a seller's home for, not only allows you to properly market the property but get it sold in a reasonable amount of time. On the buyers side, you may have to be very forthright about how long a short sale could possibly take and make the buyer very aware of the extensive process.
