Sunday---My Least Favorite Day of the Week

I think I don't like Sundays because they represent that feeling that was ingrained in me as a kid that my weekend was almost over and it was back to school in the morning.  Yuck!  Of course, having my least favorite dinner every stinking Sunday for my childhood didn't help.  Pot roast.  I could count on one hand how many pot roasts I've made as an adult.  Not my thing, but Mom used to make them every Sunday evening.

There are things to look forward to on Sundays, but somehow I still get that feeling of dread even as a forty-two year old woman.   Sunday evenings on HBO are usually good programming nights.  I've really taken to the show Newsroom starring Jeff Daniels.  Reminds of my days in broadcasting.  And sometimes I get to spend time with buyers on a house hunt.  For a Real Estate nerd like me, that's fun.

Well, now that my work is done for the day, I think I am going to go and play.  Didn't have any buyers, but had some financial stuff to attend to on a Short Sale listing and a price change to get going with another.  It's sunny and warm outside with a strong breeze.  Perfect weather to just get out and enjoy.

I love Sundays. Some work, some play and Church add up to a very good day for me.

Oh I love Sundays and in particular, Sunday mornings.  It almost makes me want to fry bacon even though I am not a big bacon fan.

Chris Ann:  Funny how things that effected us as kids, still linger on so long into our adult lives.  Still influence us.  Me?  Sundays represent just the opposite.  Family day.  Relaxation day.  Great meals ... all things I look forward to and remember fondly.  Now Mondays?? Quite another story ...

I love Sunday.  Might be my favorite day of the week.  I also love pot roast, but my daughter, like you, does not.   Church always motivates me, I love Nascar and Football on Sunday afternoons and generally I get to eat with more members of my family than other days.  I am at work right now.  But I am thinking of ducking out early today.  It's rainy and I'm sure no one with notice.

I love Sundays too.  It's my families day to catch up with each other.  We can relax, play, whatever we like.

Sunday mornings are usually the only time I have nothing scheduled. Relax for a few hours. Clear your head and get fresh for the coming week.

Chris Ann~ I know what you mean about dreading Sundays as a kid.  Fridays were always my favorite because it was the start of the weekend.  Now I enjoy Sundays because it's the one day we can usually take off, like we did today.

Hi Chris Ann - Your post took me back to when food was different....in that it was always the same. Sunday: pot roast, Friday: fish, Wednesday: meat loaf, etc. Eating was much less fun, and my mom was a contender for the worst cook in the universe.

Betty:  Never been much of a church person.  When I did go regulary, it was Sunday nights.  Even then, hated Sundays.

Liz:  Any day is a good day for bacon.

Gene:  I like Mondays now.  Funny how that works when you find a career you like.

Tammy:  Used to enjoy football until I worked for a sports radio station.  Ugh.   Now I can only bring myself to watch the Superbowl.  Sundays in the fall are the worst for a non-football fan.

Paula:  Another factor was that my Mom and Dad used to drag us kids to our Great Uncle JJ's house.  He'd cook found for adult palettes like squid, had zero toys and made us listen to him play the organ while my Mom sang.  Mom couldn't sing.  It was like watching the Gong Show.

Bill:  I don't dislike Sundays as much as I have in the past, but there is always a bit of the blues somewhere in my soul on Sunday, particularly evenings.

Donna:  I took today off, for the most part.  There is always something to do in this job, but it was minor.

Dick:  Did our Mom's cook off the same list?  Thursday were pork chops.  Mom could cook really good though.  I still can't duplicate her pork chops.

Hi Chris Ann, I get that same feeling once Sunday afternoon comes around. I'm still very much an optimist in the morning.. all the things we can do ... hubby is home ... family time .. but if I wasn't busy with appointments and actually got to enjoy a day with the fam, then I'm dreading the end of it.

I recall some similar memories like your pot roast.. mine involved liver though. Thank goodness it wasn't every Sunday!

Andrea:  Liver?!!  I'll consider myself lucky with the pot roast.

Well, you've got me watching Newsroom now, and I'm hooked on that show. Well, sometimes, Sorkin is a little over-reaching but I hear it just gets better and better. And for the record, liver cooked correctly -- which is medium rare with onions in bacon grease -- is simply delicious! :)

Elizabeth:  I can't get past knowing I'm eating an organ.  As for Newsroom, it had me tearing up again last night.  Between that and the Olympics, I was a mess.

Chris Ann.  That's funny.  I try to take Sundays off to have a little down time so they are a great day for me, but I know what you mean about the back to the rat race thing on Monday monring.

We always enjoyed Sundays....with 11 siblings we were always outside playing and on Sundays we always had uncles and aunts and their children...so Sundays after church was play time and great meals.

Belinda:  And it doesn't even make sense now that I have a job where I can set my own work hours.  It's so weird how things get ingrained in us.

Rebecca:  That was Saturdays in our family.  We got together with cousins that day and it was Dad's day to make dinner.  That day was fun.
