breaking news

Fear of something real, based on past experience, can be a good thing. It often serves to protect us from harm.  The most often used example of this sort of fear has to do with putting your hand on a hot stove. It only takes once to instill a healthy fear of doing it again.

Fear of the unknown, on the other hand, often prevents us from doing something that may be to our benefit.  We don't know the results and all the other little insidious bad experiences dancing in the far corners of our memory bank begin to whisper.  We fantasize results that have no basis in reality. We become paralyzed.

Opportunity lays before us and we falter.  Things we dreamed of are within our grasp and we fail to reach out and grab them. We either do not believe we can accomplish them or we fear that we are impotent in the face of the challenge.

Pain. Failure to act brings pain. Failure to seize the opportunity brings pain. Oh, we don't necessarily hurt physically, but we do feel the pain. Failure to act is not only an instance, it is also another brick in the wall you build that will stand between you and future opportunities as well. Failure to seize opportunity not only slows growth, it increases your tolerance for future behavior when faced with life changing decisions.

Virgin home buyer? It doesn't have to hurt. You really don't need to fear the "first time".  It can be the most wonderful experience. The process can be as gentle as necessary.  You should take your time. You should understand every thing that is happening. You should have confidence that each step will bring you closer to your goal.

Your fear is well founded if you plan to do this on your own. There are many perils that a virgin home buyer has to face. You have never done this before and without proper guidance, you could be taken advantage of very easily.  Your goal should always be your key focus. It would behoove you to seek out someone that will make the experience everything it should be.

My suggestion would be to sit down with someone that has helped others do this before. The gentle voice of experience will help calm you as you proceed.  A person that has helped many others will be able to listen to your fears and explain reality in a way that will ease your apprehension. A person that has helped other virgin home buyers will certainly recognize your needs and after listening to  your dreams, guide you through the experience.

Connect with a Realtor that has worked with virgin home buyers in the past. Explain your situation. Share your dreams. Express your fears. Trust their wisdom. Listen to their counsel and follow their lead.

Virgin home buyer? It doesn't have to hurt. Your first home purchase can be a joyful memory that will last a lifetime. If you happen to be looking for that home in Washington, DC or Montgomery County, MD, I would love to sit with you and be that person that holds your hand from the beginning to the end of your home buying process.

I always try to think of the word FEAR as False Evidence Appearing Real.
