National Night Out, is a community-building (and crime-preventing) outreach event celebrated from coast to coast in the U.S. annually on the first Tuesday in August.
Throughout Santa Clara County, from Cupertino to San Jose to Palo Alto, cities and towns feature an abundance of opportunities for neighbors to meet each other, as well as local peace officers.
The first National Night Out involved 400 communities in 23 states and 2.5 million people. The 2012 event is the 29th annual National Night Out.
Cities from all 50 U.S. states as well as all U.S. territories and military bases will participate this year.
It’s important that residents remember the best deterrent to crime are neighbors who know, care and watch out for each other. People unable to attend community events are invited to turn on their porch lights from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm to show support.
