As a kid, I'd always intended to become a Bazillionaire.  I had no plan, or idea, how to get there, and it conflicted a bit with my other plans to become a fireman, a superhero and an astronaut, but who knows.... I suppose I could have been a firefighting, astronaut who fought crime at night, and had a bat-cave underneath the mansion... I dunno... does that sound far fetched?

At a young age I used to take my bike to the top of the hill, I wore a cape (which miraculously didn't become entangled in the spokes, and send me "flying" over the handlebars) and would cruise at fantastic speeds down the hill, as practice for when I actually became capable of flight.

Toward those goals, after graduating high-school (I use the term "graduating" very loosely... I think my teachers just passed me because they didn't want me to stay around any longer than absolutely necessary) I attended art school.  Isn't that the obvious path toward Bazillionaire-hood, rocketry and crimefighting?

After college, I took a job at a local print shop, quickly moving my way up to management, and eventually owning my own company.  Somewhere along the line I fell in love with a winsome lass, whose parents were both too tall, and too short. We married, raised a couple of more wonderful children than I deserve, sold the printing business, dabbled in the graphic arts field, and eventually found my way into the wonderful work-a-day world of real estate.

Isn't it funny the things that can happen on the path to become a Bazillionaire.  Life happens.  An old Yiddish proverb states "Man plans, and God laughs".

Man Plans and God Laughs!

Needless to say, the dream of becoming the well-heeled caped-crusader had fallen dramatically by the wayside.  I never became a bazillionaire, the cape is long gone, Wayne Manor is currently occupied by some good-looking-soft-spoken-playboy who's on the "rise", some other guy played golf on the moon, and I am currently on my way to returning to being single.  Maybe I should reconsider those goals?  My heart just isn't in them anymore.

Wayne and Jean - to quote the "cute" one.... it is "a long and winding road", isn't it?

Life takes unexpected right-hand turns sometimes, and we end up where we never meant to go.  It's all part of the journey -- and keeps us from getting bored  : )

Sorry about the divorce, though.  One of those right-hand turns.

Hi, Alan. I really enjoyed this. I remember the magical days of childhood all too well...those days when you believed that just by saying and wishing something, it would happen.  Suggested.

Alan - you need real nourishment.  Can I send you some SPAM?  And, while I am at it, in your spare time we could sure use a good presinct manager in your area.

Alan - Man plans and god laughs sounds about right.  In high school I wanted to be an accountant and in college I decided to become a doctor, which life did happen and plans changed.

That is  one of my very favorite all time quotes "Man makes plans, God laughs." It so describes my life to a T, also. How little my life resembles my plans, too. On the other hand, I have to remember that God knows what he's doing better than I do, so however he made it work out is for the best.

Jay - oh... I did... nothing like canned spiced ham.

Margaret - I think I may have left it in a box somewhere... I'll try to dig it out.

Gretchen - sometimes I wonder if God's even paying attention... She's got bigger fish to fry, so to speak, but I'm sure you're right.

Alan - You always write so well... and so humorously...  I think it is all in the head... I am sure you consider yourself a very wealthy man..based on your children, wife and grandchild..

Alan, I'm sorry to hear life is grabbing you and shaking you around, but obviously from all of the above comments, you have a huge support network to help you get through it all. Not sure any of them can help you become a bazillionaire, but their hearts are definitely in the right place. ;)

Well, unless someone gives you a referral to a bazillion-dollar listing, in which case you'd be 3% of a bazillionaire! You'd still have 97% to go, but it's a start....

Mary - I'm willing to accept that referral... hey, you gotta start somewhere!
