Selling Your Tualawoman trainingtin & Portland Metro Home: Preparation Gets You The Gold

Watching the Olympic athletes struggle with the disappointment of not getting a gold metal got me thinking. Here are these amazing athletes that are exceptional at their sport who train for years for the chance of getting the gold.

I've watched as many stood at the podium, hanging their heads because they earned the silver instead. I get that training for so long with that gold carrot to spur them on is needed to push themselves beyond the norm. With the focus constantly on the gold, it hurts when a error costs you it.

You know where this is going right? Selling your Tualatin and Portland Metro home is much the same. Ok..so you're not training for years for this, but you do need to "train of sorts" by preparing your home for sale. Assessing your homes strengths and weaknesses are key..same as the athletes do. If you want the gold..ie highest sales price possible, just straightening up and calling it good is not enough. You need to really CLEAN it up! woman cleaning windows

Like the athletes that only have that one chance to get it right after training for years, you only have one chance to make that great first impression, so preparing your home before it goes on the market ups your game.

*Start outside with curb appeal as you want the buyers to WANT to come inside. Neatly trimmed shrubs, fresh mulch in the garden beds, a nice clean and neat entry say welcome to the buyers.

* Remove all that extra furniture that hugs every wall. The way you live in your home is not the way you live in your home when it's on the market. Buyer's need to see the space.

Sold Home* Clean..and clean some more. You know how you feel when your home is nice and clean..it's a good feeling. Buyer's can often overlook some outdated fixtures if the presentation is clean and neat.

* You know all those repairs that you were going to get to..but never did. Now is the time to take care of all of them.

When you're thinking about selling your Tualatin & Portland Metro home, make sure you give yourself enough time to prepare your home so that it shines and sparkles in it's best light. Giving me a call so that we can walk through your home and assess it's strengths and weaknesses is the best place to start.

So, limber up, get training going on all those preparations. Going for the gold means some work, but it will be worth it!

Hi Cindy, wonderful analogy! It's a shame that some of them are so disappointed with "just" a silver medal ...it's such an incredible accomplishment!

When it comes to selling your home, however, you never want to be just 2nd best... you don't want to be just good next to your competition, the best will score the gold buyer.

Hi Andrea, It is sad that they are disapointed with "just" the silver. They are AMAZING and I know make me proud that they are out there representing our country..silver and all.

Now..I love what you've added...one of the great things about comments. Like yours, they can add much to the original blog. well said!

Do we dedicate as fiercely as the athletes do for days, weeks, months and even years. The window of opportunity is very narrow, don't forget to take advantage of it when it comes your way.

Wow! A House as and athlete is very different metaphor but I do like how it forces us to think about preparing to the best of our abilities. :)

Hi Winston, Preparing a home to go on the market takes lots of work, but it's key to to how it shows in that first moment when a buyer comes to look. You're right, the window of opportunity is very narrow.

Hi Laura, It's all in the training and preparing to be as best  you can be when the moment comes to shine...be it an athlete or a home! You know everything can be tied back to real estate ...well most things anyway..:)

Cindy, Nothing but GOLD for YOU and this post.  I don't know about the others, but I certainly "Suggested" this post.  It's a great way to relate selling a home to competing in the Olympics, and who wants Silver when they have a chance to earn GOLD.  Thank you for sharing and best wishes always.

I like where you're going with this. Prepare your home as if it is a competition, which, in reality, it is.

Hi Debbie, I was saddened by all these great athletes not being happy that they didn't get the gold...and this blog just popped into my head since most sellers are not happy when they don't get the high sales price that they are hoping for..and often because they don't prepare.

Hi Jill, I figure the athletes prepare for years by training just for a chance to get the gold. Sellers are competing when their home goes on the market..so they need to prepare it so it's strong when going on the market. <cue the olympic tune>
