I heard laughter and bantering even as they were getting out of the car. House was under contract, and they wanted to show her parents the house. There were lots of excited comments as they surveyed the front of the house.
Finally they approached the front steps and I opened the front door.
The mom was effusive. "I love it, I love it, I love it!"
“It is obvious that SHE (pointing to the mom) is YOUR mom (pointing to the daughter)” Everybody laughed! We wanted to light the fireplace. "we forgot to bring matches again" was said with dismay.
"I have a lighter," the mom said.
"A secret smoker," I retorted immediately. Everybody laughed.
Brian lit the fireplace with the lighter. There was a (semi) big explosion. Brian jumped back. We all laughed. Then both ladies chimed in at once. "Are you OK?" He is checked out carefully, and tenderly. I say, "Next time I see you, you will have huge blisters all over the back of your hand!"
The entire hour I spent at the home was spent letting the buyers show their parents the house. The entire hour was filled with joy.
At one point the mom took me aside. "Thank you SO much for taking such good care of my kids!"
As we were winding down our time together, I mentioned to the mom that I had taken a whole house video the last time I was there.
"Thank you SO much for doing that!" was her reply. "We watched it, then we sent it to our sisters and brother. My parents don't have a computer, so my brother in Ohio took his laptop over and showed them your video!"
As they left, it struck me that it wasn't the house that made them happy. The homes they were raised in were happy. The home they are creating is happy.
It struck me that I was observing happiness move into a house!
Laughter and love IS what makes a home in my view and I think This is something you want in many a home and it's some I love to see happen! Good zluck to all the families you work with!
That really does look like a happy house and a happy couple. It really does matter who owns/buys a house . These people seem to bring the house to life by standing in front of it. GREAT post.
