No, the Mobil1 Lube Express is still there - I am talking about what it replaced .
We have been using this oil change facility for "eons" even though there is a modern Jiffy Lube just a few blocks away.
Last week, Arthur stopped in to have the oil changed in my car and had his ever present camera in hand. When the manager commented that he always sees him with a camera Arthur mentioned that we blog about real estate and local history.
The manager pointed to a tree and highway marker at the side of the lot and said, "There used to be a school right here". Sure enough, the very first high school in eastern Prince William County was on the site. The sign (hidden by hanging branches) provides a very good account of how the Prince William County school system made use of that site. I can't believe we have overlooked that sign for more than 20 years since we regularly use historic markers in our posts about Prince William County's history
Taking the time to read highway markers will
- Let your out-of-town-clients know you are very knowledgeable about your community
- Give you information to write interesting localism posts
We believe our knowledge of the area's history makes us better ambassadors for Prince William County.
If you go to Highway Marker Database you will see a link on the right sidebar to "Markers Near You" - it automatically finds the markers in your area and displays them on a Google Map. It doesn't get any easier than that.
