Tax, tax, tax .... What are your business expense categories?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with 3:16 team REALTY ~ Locally-owned Frisco TX Real Estate Co. #9001154

Tax, tax, tax, it's never fun. It can be down right scary.  It's the time of the year where I am usually busy getting ready to get my previous year's taxes organized. I have always been a spreadsheet gal. Over the years, my spreadsheet has become somewhat complex - not sophisticated as if you could purchase it like a software, but it suits me for what I need.

As I'm working on it this time around, I just feel that I have too many business expense categories:

  • Professional Dues
  • Education
  • Internet/ Web (related expenses)
  • Personal Marketing/ Advertising
  • Listings (related expenses)
  • Office Items/ Supplies
  • Gifts
  • Entertainment/ Meals
  • Postage
  • Miscellenous (one-time expense)
  • Auto
  • Utilities
  • Cellphone
  • Consulting

What are your business expense categories? Please share them.

Loreena, I have depreciation separate from Auto but that is probably a sub-category of that one.

Good starting list Loreena,I seem to break down these into more sub-categories; such as staging(Rental or purchase),any costs paid for repairs, inspections etc. This also gives me an up to date idea of just what I am spending, besides normal stuff, just to do business. It is so easy to spend and not remember.
