Wordless Wednesday-Rainbow Bridge at Lake Powell

One of the benefits of living in St George Utah is the close proximity to several national and state parks which offer unlimited adventures.  Visiting Rainbow Bridge at Lake Powell is one such adventure! Lake Powell is an easy 2 1/2 hour drive from St George Utah and the drive getting there has absolutely gorgeous scenery.

My family recently spent a couple of days sightseeing in and around Lake Powell, this is a photo of Rainbow Bridge National Monument.  Rainbow Bridge is the world's largest know natural bridge. It is 290 feet tall and spans 275 feet across, the top of the arch is 42 feet thick and 33 feet wide. It is nearly as tall as the Statue of Liberty and you could practically fit the US Capital Building dome underneath!

It was such a fun day, the sun was shining and the lake was just beautiful.  It took us about 2 hours by boat to reach the monument, but it was well worth it!  You just don't get to see this kind of thing everyday....

Great shot! This sure brings back memories of visiting there growing up, which we did every summer of my life (I grew up in Ogden). Of course, back then, you could boat right up under the bridge as the whole lake was more full.
