Cool Things Children Do in Newport Beach
There is a hidden beach in Corona del Mar that few tourist know – it is strikingly beautiful, secluded and offers endless possibilities for fun and education.
Travel to the end of Ocean Boulevard at the intersection of Poppy Avenue and look for free street parking. Above the beach you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Ocean. On a clear day you can see Catalina Island – 25 miles away.
From the overlook walk down the paved pathway to the beach. On the way you will see a nice public restroom where you can wash off the sand after a day at the beach.
Not only is this a beautiful beach, it is well protected from swells and surf so great for children and families. Divers love this beach as well. It is easy to access (just roll your gear down the inclined path – no stairs), there is a deep pool off the beach great for snorkeling.
If you look to Yelp for your recommendations, review the image on the right. I used a great services called Wordle to create a “word cloud” of the posts – the more frequently a word is used, the larger it becomes. It will give you a good sense of why people love this beach and the tide pools.
Little Corona Del Mar Beach is famous for its tidal pools. Make sure you come on a low tide and you will see why Bella (my seven year old grand daughter) has certified the tide pools among the Cool Things Children do in Newport Beach.

I love everything about Newport Beach. My cousins lived there for a while and I spent a wonderful summer there. It is heaven on earth!
Robert, your timing is excellent! This morning I was thinking about the beach but not being native to OC, nor living near the beach, I didn't know a great place to go. Now I do!
Joan, it is a special place. I have traveled widely and enjoyed the culture and architeture and people in some of the great cities of the world but I am happy to call Newport Beach my home.
Iris, glad to be of help. It is a small beach and it will get you away for a restfull and enjoyable day.

This looks like so much fun for children at Newport Beach. We used to have our children play in tide pools when they were little as well.
