For 6 years, we have been cultivating a training program for our market center.the largest challenge has ALWAYS been getting the commitment of other associates in the office to teach classes. This has been a constant "Push me-Pull you" scenario - It seems that when people "plug-in" they end up being "sucked into" a black hole and it ultimately affects their ability to transact business . . . So they resist committing to train.
Such a quandary for folks (like me) who devise elaborate training programs but do not have the depth of instructors to staff the dream. My challenge has always been how to "coerce" enough people into agreeing to join our Cadre of instructors to fill all of the gaps.
Today, we hit a way-point that we did not anticipate. We had been promoting a "Train The Trainer" class I have created over time . . . The goal was to invite all of our members to come to join the faculty, and the promise was that the more people who opted in would mean the less of a time commitment per person.
15 of our STAR associates appeared in the room today and TOTALLY engaged in the 2 hour presentation I had prepared. Everything went as planned.
Afterwards, I tallied our instructor pool - 20 people and growing - 6 years into this thing and FINALLY we have commitment from enough people to actually staff all of this training . . .
This is quite a victory - Getting commitment from a gaggle of REALTORS is akin to successfully herding cats . . . and it is extremely liberating for an old, worn out curmudgeon such as myself who could stand a hiatus from teaching.
Sorry for the "self-accolades" here - I couldn't resist - It appears that we are one step closer to our goals :-)
You really DO learn more by teaching - and the key to Leadership really IS letting go.
Best,
