Governor McCrory?
Charlotte's seven-term mayor (12 years) was introduced today by former NC Governor, James Holshouser (1973 - 1977), pledging his support of McCrory's run for the gubernatorial post. As expected, Charlotte Republican Mayor Pat McCrory made his run for governor official today in his hometown of Jamestown, NC.
"I'm proud to announce that I will seek to become the next governor of North Carolina," Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory said as he ended months of speculation as to whether or not our Mayor would announce his plans to run in the upcoming election. McCrory has a documented history of success in the state's largest city while serving as our widely respected Mayor.
McCrory emphasized four main issues on which he intends to focus: a more responsive state government, tougher anti-gang measures, reduced road congestion (including transit proposals) and lower taxes.
"We need a governor that's not going to wait for people to come to them," McCrory said, "We need a governor who's going to go out and find out what's happening across the state of North Carolina."
McCrory, 51, an executive with Duke energy, said he would remain as mayor even as he runs. He will be 'playing catch-up' to the other three candidates who have been campaigning for at least a year. His competitors include NC Senator, Fred Smith (Johnston County), NC Supreme Court Justice, Bob Orr (Burnsville), and Bill Graham, a Salisbury attorney.
Will we be saying, "We knew you when..."?
