Remember A Leopard Can't Change Its Spots

Leopard In TreeSome people drift through life a bit too naive at phases of their lives. With real estate negotiations and also with your relationships with people,

Remember A Leopard Can't Change Its Spots.

This old maxim means a leopard is a leopard not a zebra or a giraffe. We all are born with certain predispositions and are molded by our family and environment from birth to age ten, and it is solidified much more as a process from age ten to age 20. THEN we have our spots. It is who we are, SLOWLY if at all changing that CORE part of us from early adulthood on.

A "generally" mean and nasty revolting person stays mean. Irresponsible can be some folk's spots.

A nice, gentle, and high integrity person generally stays that way. I use the adverb generally because we all have the power on a given day to change OURSELVES. But like an alcoholic or junkie at age 20, only about 5% ever can go without relapse. Why? It is who we are at our core with our biological, emotional, mental state.

You see women in relationships trying to RESCUE or CHANGE men. Preposterous looking back on it with them failing to do so. In negotiation, you see someone giving a liar the benefit of the doubt countless times. Why? Their own spots are Mr. Nice Guy and they are stubborn to learn every one is not like them.

I do remember a fire and brim stone evangelical Billy Graham in his younger days coming off as more righteous than everyone else. Into his 90's now, Billy Graham has MELLOWED with the energy level, and you might say he has different spots. But his core spots of being spiritual are still there. A good person will shine forth, while a depraved mind will spread trouble every where they go. You hear it in their speech, you can clearly see it in their behavior.

Be QUICK on the uptake in assessing other people's spots. And for heaven sakes accept them as they are if you choose to keep them in your life, and NEVER think you have a chance of CHANGING THEM.

good post as always Gary. I recommended it for a feature post. I think this is a subject that should be talked about more.

It is very hard to get womeone to change, and most of the time not worth the effort.  Take people at face value and work with it.

Gary, I was having this conversation with someone recently. A person from my past has returned to my life and though they are acting differently I'm afraid to trust them too much. I'm hoping for the best.

I've missed some of your recent posts but this was a good one. It's so true that you have more or less the same personality your entire life.
