I was on a wakeboard trip at Lake Oroville this past weekend.  I spent the day there with friends.  It was absolutely beautiful.  I cannot stop smiling when I am relaxing on the water.  Perhaps that is why I can’t stop smiling when I hear Little Big Town sing On The Pontoon; it’s a celebration of how good it feels to be out on the water.  Isn’t that what we should do with everything;celebrate how good it feels?

Last week, after my morning workout, I was walking into Subway when I was surprised to see a dollar bill lying on the sidewalk.  I looked around; it didn’t appear to belong to anyone.  I saw a 7-8 year old girl standing in front of the Subway with her grandfather, smiling at me.  I picked up the dollar bill and walked over to them.  I said, “I think this was laying there for someone to find that would enjoy it even more than me, please give it to her.”  He was stunned.  He was grinning from ear to ear and immediately launched into a life lesson about generosity and kindness to strangers.  It would have been rude to stand there, but I got the gist of it as I walked away.  When I came back out of the Subway, he smiled at me so big I couldn’t help but smile back.  It felt like a true pay it forward moment.

I got invited to the Brad Paisley concert in Sacramento last week.  It seemed a little indulgent, but I was to be their guest and the JetBlue flights were super cheap.  I spoke to the clients I was working with and gave myself permission to take a few days off.   The concert was incredible.  Brad has a song called Little Moments where he sings, “Yeah, I live for little moments like that”.  It really connected with my message this month.  He is a genuine entertainer.  It was one of the best concerts I have ever attended.

My home is on a lake here in Anaheim.  When I step out the front door, the ducks start swimming to me.  That’s because Bella and I feed them bread bits once or twice a week.  The ducks and Bella have a unique relationship.  They tease her and she chases them, but with no malice.  How do I know that?  She caught one.  When she realized she was going to catch it, she pulled up, twisted away her head and shut her eyes as the duck stood on his toes, spread his wings and squawked.  They collided, looked at each other, and went their separate ways.  I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants.

If you stop to enjoy the little moments, it will make you smile.  Smiling makes for a great day.  Having great days makes for a great life.  We only get one.  Enjoy the little moments!
