Healthy choices matter
Jeanne shares what she's learned through painful experience with the goal of helping other ActiveRain members avoid the health challenges she experienced.
We've been through some of those same scares (my husband had 2 heart attacks just 2 years ago, has diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol - and he's young!)
Sometimes genetics works against you. Other times it's laziness and bad habits. I'm glad I was drinking a big glass of water when I read
Healthy choices matter!
Whether we want to or not we find that a great deal of time is spent in grocery stores.
In 2007 we had a noisy wake up call in the form of my having a very slight stroke. Then came the diagnosis of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and the fact that i had supposedly become a type 2 diabetic.
Those will disrupt the heck out of any business.
As we rebuilt my life we were forced to take a serious look at diet and exercise.
Neither were my favorite subjects at the time. Amazing how priorities change when you are faced with incredible pain and life in a wheel chair.
Ralph did a lot of study and put up with a lot (my acting like a 5 year old brat) as I reluctantly gave up a lot of my favorite foods and sodas in general.
Today while on one of many grocery runs I observed a young man of about 40 whose basket was full of about 30 bottles of various sodas. He was easily 350 pounds and other non nutricious foods.
I really wanted to gently warn him that his choices were leading him down a path to unpleasant consequences.
I do not have any credentials in anything other than Real Estate but I did learn some lessons from the school of pain.
Gratefully I am back to almost 100 percent but it has been a long journey.
If I can save any of my Rain friends from what I experienced since 2007 by sharing this it will be well worth the post.
The old saying that "you are what you eat" is true. What you chose to put in your body will determine a lot of things about the quality of your life!
Fresh fruit, veggies, quality protein from meats, fish and nuts will allow you to maximize your energy. Sugar and starch may give you a quick fix but they cost me plenty.
As much as I hate to admit it, water should become your favorite beverage. It is the healthiest choice you can make, based upon my trip down recovery road. You also need to drink a lot of it.
You may be fine making other choices. Each of us is different. I know that had I known what I know now about the effect of bad food and beverage choices I could have spared both myself and Ralph a lot of lost business time , our retirement savings, and lost productivity.
I just wanted to make you think about the importance of making the right choices in your health as well as your business life. They are inseparable. When you lose your health, not much else matters!
