Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #31

Well, this isn't your typical "Pedestrian Tales...". To be sure, the "pedestrian" aspect of things remains the same: someone who should be on the sidewalk or in a crosswalk isn't in either of those places. That's typical- sad, but typical.

What's not typical here is that the driver of the vehicle involved is an Orange County Deputy Sheriff who had this accident while she was responding to a call for assistance. She will undoubtedly share a common mindset with the other 30 drivers who had ended the lives of folks in the series:

Orange deputy on way to call hits, kills pedestrian By Susan Jacobson, Orlando Sentinel

An Orange County deputy sheriff on her way to a call hit a pedestrian and killed him Friday night, authorities said. Deputy Joyce Rougeux, 26, was behind another deputy's car on the way to help stop four suspects — one armed — fleeing in a stolen vehicle, officials said.

She did not have her emergency lights or siren on and was traveling with the flow of traffic, said Capt. Angelo Nieves, a sheriff's spokesman. Florida Highway Patrol investigators will determine how fast her patrol car was moving. The first deputy was in the 6000 block of West Colonial Drive about 10:30 p.m. when the pedestrian started to cross the street, troopers said. The deputy swerved to avoid the man, but the second car, driven by Rougeux, hit him, the Sheriff's Office said.

The 52-year-old victim was identified as Walter Levi Brannum of Orlando. Rougeux, a patrol deputy who joined the department in December 2010, will not be back at work until at least Wednesday, Nieves said. The accident happened at John Street, west of Kirkman Road.

As always, I pray for this pedestrian's family- and l pray for Deputy Rougeux and her family as time marches on and they do their best to recover from this tragedy.

Good morning Dennis. I feel terrible for all involved. No winners here, just degrees of loss. One moment of tragedy will follow both families forever.

Hi, Randy:  Thank you for dropping by, and for your comment and sentiment.  There's surely no positive aspect of this..
