Hightower Creek Vineyards, which is owned by a former real estate agent and named after the creek that runs in front of the winery, opened in the spring of 2012. Liz Green and her family own the vineyard. They offer a varied selection of blended wines made from cabernet franc, viognier, vignoles, pinot grigio, merlot and catawba grapes.
All wines are bottles with a label bearing an Appalachian wildflower the white trillium, the winery logo. Hightower Creek Vineyards' wines include chatuga red, chatuga white, trillium, deliverance, red clay rose, tannat and cynthiana. My favorite is the deliverance, a tasty red.
Wines are avaiable for tasting at Hightower Creek Vineyards Wednesday thru Saturday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 12:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. The tasting room itself which is visible from Highway 76 West, is housed in a remodeled homestead. A gift section offers wine accessories, T-shirts, hats and a variety of locally-crafted items, which include bird houses, benches and an assortment of cheese trays fashioned from melted wine bottles.
Scheduled events for this month include:
- August 18 - An afternoon of Irish music featuring Cara Barthels from 2:00 -4:30 p.m. on the deck. Free!
- August 18 - 7:00 p.m.- Hightower Creek Vineyards wines will be highlighted at the Sylvan Valley Lodge "Georgia Winemaker Dinner Series" with a five course summer tapas night!! Limited seating. Tickets are $75.00 and are available in advance at 706-896-7371.
- August 25 - Summer After Hours Series featuring the Buzzard Mountain Boys from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. $15.00 per person includes live entertainment, light fare and a glass of wine.
