A Mother/Daughter trip to New York City!

On our way to NYC to see a Broadway PlayI am getting ready to take a trip to NYC this weekend with one of my friends and her almost 13 year old daughter.  We will be staying with my almThe Lion Kingost 26 year old daughter in Kew Garden in Queens.  My friend wanted to do something special for her daughter's 13th birthday and in talking we found out that we both had daughters with January birthdays, so we hatched the idea of going to New York City and seeing a Broadway Play.  My daughter is a flight attendant so she was able to plan her schedule around our visit.

We bought our tickets months ago and now the time is almost upon us. Talk about special birthdays we are going to see the Lion King on Broadway.  I have always wanted to see a Broadway play and I am so excited.   This will be my daughter's second time to see the Lion King but she loved it and thought it was the one we should see.  So even though it is my daughter's birthday I feel like I am getting the treat.  I have wanted to see a Broadway play for as long as I can remember and so it will be a dream come true.  It will be interesting to see if it lives up to my expectations.  We also plan to go to ground zero, the Natural History Museum and my friend's daughter wants to shop.  I guess when you are 13 going to the headquarters of Abercrombie and Fitch is a big deal.

So what do you think after waiting this long to see my first Broadway play will it live up to my expectations?

Marchel, my daughter travels to NY at least once a month with her job and I met her there last year for a long weekend and you can't go wrong! I LOVE NY! I know that's a cliche, but it's so true! It's the most exciting city I've ever been to. We didn't make a play, but my daughter's clients have taken her before and she said it was so exciting to see. You have a blast and I'm sooooo jealous!

You'll have to come back and tell us all about it!

Chris, I am enjoying my young adult daughter.  Growing up she was my strong willed daughter and we were constantly butting heads.  Those same traits that I pulled my hair out when she was growing up are now wonderful traits as a young adult.  It is fun to go to fun places and I'm with you Disney World would not be it for me.

Linda, I'm with you.  I love NYC!!  My husband on the other hand just does not like that many people so he is thrilled for us to do a girls weekend without him.  One of our moving trips with our daughter (I think it was the trip where she was living in Manhattan and we brought her furniture to her from Dallas) we went to see the Christmas Tree and it was an awful experience.  I don't know if I have ever been in that big of a crowd.  That did it for my husband.  I love all the crowds and the excitement.

Hi Marchel, In between Wilmington and NYC I lived in Orange County, NY...We moved here in 2004. Manhattan was not as expensive in the prehistoric era when I lived there... !

Candy, Tarina is not a huggy person but I will try.  She told us we should have come last week when they had the nice weather.  It was cold like this when I went last year so I guess it will be our bit of winter.

Thesa, we are going to freeze our behinds off but I'm sure we will have a wonderful time.  While our daughter is living in NYC I want to take as much advantage as I can because she fully intends to move back west someday.  I think it is that call of the horses.

Marchel, you will have a blast! As for whether or not The Lion King will be worth it - on Broadway, absolutely!!! Just walking around there before the show will make it all seem so worth it... Walk around the Central Park some after the Museum, it's gorgeous in the winter-:-)

Hi Marchel!  I've never been to a Broadway show, but i can tell you about the immense pleasure derived from going to a live performance of the Nutcracker by the American-Ballet Theater!  This was about 12 years ago, and it was breathtaking!!  I prepared my husband in advance by warning him not to interrupt me for anything for i wanted to be fully engrossed!! It excelled my expectations, and i pray that seeing your play will too!  Like you, i longed for this since being a child!

Do tell us when you return!  I pray for traveling mercies, harmony, peace and rest on your journey.  (I suppose you are there and may have returned by now) We will look for your post!

Trey, we had a wonderful weekend!!

Inna, We loved the LION KING!!  It was so INCREDIBLE!!  We did walk through Central Park today to get to the museum but it was so COLD it was hard to enjoy.  I enjoyed it more last summer but it was still beautiful even in the cold.

Diane, it was all I expected it to be.  I'm glad we went to see the LION KING.  The costumes were incredible and the special effects.  It was just totally INCREDIBLE!!  I have always loved the Lion King so it was special to see it as a play.

We head back to Houston in the morning so appreciate your travel prayers.  We had a wonderful Mother/Daughter weekend.

Oh Marchel, New York and the Lion King on Broadway.  Must have been magical.  That's a trip that I really want to take.  Certainly a birthday that your friends 13 year old will always remember!!    Thanks for sharing.

Kate, it was magical.  All that I anticipated and more!!  I'm working on a post about it right now but I don't just whip the post out.  I'm the tortoise when it comes to writing them so it will probably take me working on it off and on all day. (lol).
