BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY ~ THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS
You don't have to look far to know that the beginning of school is just around the corner. Here in The Woodlands, the three school districts here are gearing up to open the school house doors very soon. During this busy time, it is essential to remember some safety tips and guidelines.
-
BE extra safe while driving when school begins. There will be more cars and buses on the road as well as children on foot and on bicycles. In Texas, there is NO cell phone use while in school zones. Please pay attention!
-
Instruct your children to be cautious of strangers who approach them while at the bus stop or during their walk or bike ride home. Make sure and teach them how to handle a situation that might be suspect.
-
Here in Texas it is still very hot here at the end of August. Make sure your child has plenty of water and wears light clothing.
-
Due to the still hot temperatures, make sure that packed lunches won't spoil by including insulated bags or frozen packs. One good idea is to freeze the bottle of water to put inside of the lunch bag.
-
If riding a bicycle to school, have the brakes checked out to insure they are working properly.
- Wear proper footwear. While flip flops and backless shoes are popular, there have also been many accidents on crowded school stairways where this type of footwear has resulted in serious injury. Being stepped on from behind with these types of shoes can cause falls.
- Keep sharp objects such as pencils and scissors in a padded case.
- KNOW your route. Go over the route with your child and practice their route before school begins.
Stay safe and have a great first day of school! Taking a few minutes more during the heavy school traffic times is worth keeping our children safe!
