So true! GREAT advise...sometimes folks forget that what they put on the internet is there to stay. Have a fantastic weekend...
Larry, Sounds like a good ratio to us!
Back later to respond to everyone else!
This is the same thing I warn my kids about. One stupid act could be all over the internet. So be careful.
Hi Liz and Bil, we agree and alwaystry to think about the general public reading something ever if a members only post.
great post! It's wise to stop every now and then and think through what we're doing or about to do. If we've already done it, we're probably too late.
Great post! We all need to think is saying that worth offending someone and costing us their business? Unless they are doing something illegal or immoral that is worth taking a stand and loosing business over it is bust to just say nothing.
I,m fairly new to ActiveRain and I'll seen a few comments and photos that I thought was a little over the top. When I make a comment, I usually type, read, delete, retype and re-read before I hit the submit button. I don't want to offend anyone. I want to be as professional as possible in my comments and responses.
Very well put Liz and Bill. That's one of the reasons I sat on the sidelines for a few years before I actually started bloging. I've also learned when you are angry, NOT to hit that send button right away when writing an email or post anywhere!
Okay, finally back!!
John, That's a good analogy for it!
Lynda, We routinely see in our Google Analytics search matches for agents who have left comments on our posts. You never know what Google will pop up as a priority.
Amanda, That what would Mom/Dad say if they saw this post/comment DOES cross my mind regularly and influences what I will or won't type in a totally public forum.
Edie, No doubt, I've seen some pretty surprising things in Facebook photos.
Tammy, A Feature and then the Daily Drop really helps get the message out! And same here, we only want them to be shocked by just HOW MUCH we know about their area :)
Jeff, I think some folks get a lot braver in the virtual world. They acted the same way face to face there's a good change someone would level them.
Sam, Those pictures definitely get searched too and you just don't know what will match. They might be old photos, but they stay out there tied to our names.
Regena, Definitely. We want our online personality to match with our in person personality. No surprises for the consumers when they get to meet us in person :)
Denise, There's always a ton of info to learn here daily. The Rain trumps our C.E. classes easily :)
Lori, Unfortunately there's no eraser good enough to get it all.
Gene, There's a lot of "famous" people out there now because of one Internet moment.
Bob, We do very few Members Only posts so we have less to worry about.
Tom, There's a bit of opportunity to get it quickly, but once Google finds it there's not much hiding it.
Alan, There are some battles we'll pick, others we'll decline to engage.
Sharon, The more you get to know folks here, the easier it is to know who you can joke with and who's always serious.
Mitch, We lurked for many months before making our first comment. Then a few more here and there, but it was probably 6 months before we did our first blog post. Now it's a daily part of our routine.
So true. What you say to someone in an eyeball to eyeball is a whole new world as to what you write. Thanks for the reinforcment and remember......................
Never giving up is a life sentence
for which there is no escape.
John, There'd be some serious brawls if people spoke in person the same way some of them do online.
Yes! A couple of years ago I read a blog in this space from a younger agent, who wrote a post while intoxicated, and said so in the post. Don't drink and drive, and don't drink and post either! Holy cow.
I try to be a bit light in my posts, bit it's hard to show a smile when typing without having to put one of those darned ;^)...
Ya just lose the flow.
Karen, Oh, that could make for some interesting reading though! I've seen a few of those between blogging and FB and you just know they need to push the keyboard away.
Travis, Same here, we mix in some :) in the comments just to be safe.
Agree, my rule: Never post when angry or upset. It comes across in the post.
Also, when I'm socially, I let my friends know it is NOT ok to post pictures of me or do a check in with me in. I have won listings because another agent had a picture on FB of her sitting at a table in a bar with bottles and glasses all over. This family did not drink and did not want a "drunken realtor". Their words...not mine.
So yes, be very careful what is posted.
Just catching up on the best of blogs. Blog noted. And yes, it's never a good idea to post while drinking! I can't imagine doing that. And never wanting to leave an impression that could be seen as negative by someone else, too. Great post!
Liane, It is definitely easy for the emotion of the moment to force it through. And can totally understand consumers not liking the idea of a "drunken agent" repping them.
Jan, The blogging/drinking combo might prove entertaining for the rest of us, but who knows how much hot water the blogger might find themselves in :)
Bliz, thanks for the warning, I don't think that I have seen any of these jaw dropping comments or blogs, and I hope that I haven't inadvertently written any of these.
Bob, We don't see a ton of the "what were they thinking" moments, but there are enough. And I've not seen you on that list ever!
Thanks, that's good to hear.
