hatch chili

Tis the season to find Hatch Chilis at your local market.  If ever there was a seasonal treat, this is it!

Wo learned about the Chilis when we lived in southwest Colorado.  They became almost an addiction .  Once you get used to having them you miss them when they are not readily available.  Now, you have been warned!

Grown in Hatch, New Mexico, these Chili's have a flavor like no other .

The uses are varied and the Chili's freeze well so any you don't have to use them quickly and they can easily be utilized in dishes for months to come.

One of our favorite family meals is Green Chili Chicken.  I have posted it before, so we will not bore you with it this soon.    There are also many other uses for them.

They are great stuffed with quinoa and cream cheese .   Adding them to omeletes , soups and salsas give these dishes a new depth of flavor.

Although these savory chili delights can be found canned, the flavor is just not the same.

This is the only time of the year to find them so do yourself and those you cook for a favor.  Stock up.

Ralph & Jeanne,  I am not sure that I have ever seen Hatch Chilis in our stores.  I did fall in love with Jalepano Peppers and Chipolte Chile Pepper only because someone else prepared them. Now I like to use them in a few recipes.

If I visit Albuquerque someday I will try Hatch Chilis.

Hello Jeanne & Ralph, Thanks for commenting on my first blog.  I'm overwhelmed by the responses that I received.  I LOVE chillies so I had to write a comment here.  I'm Chinese born in India, so the hotter the chillies, the better.  There are many types of chillies in the supermarket here in Toronto, so I'll keep a lookout for Hatch chillies.  Thanks again. Eily

There is no such thing as NON chili season in Texas. We like it HOT! :))) Never heard of a Hatch Chili. But then, I am not a cook. Will ask the hubby. Heading to Colorado soon. May just look then.

Joni, they are seasonal only at this time of the year, you can find them at most local groceries right now but not for too much longe.  But.... you can get Anaheim's almost any time.  They taste similar but Hatch is far better..... In our opinion.

Hi Ralph & Jeanne, These chilies look delicious. Just like Joni said, here in California, we eat chilies raw, roasted, sautéed, fried etc. Thanks for sharing and I may have to cook a chicken chili casserole tomorrow night.
