Is the Millennial Generation the most technology savvy in history?I am growing a bit weary of hearing about today’s “Millennial” generation being the most technology savvy brood in history.

As far as I am concerned, there is nothing remarkable about being an “end user.” True genius lies in creativity and innovation, not in implementation.

Texting was invented in the 1830’s by some brilliant people that conceptualized the use of electricity as a long distance communications tool.

By the late 19th century, wireless texting was a reality. Worldwide communications no longer relied on buried cables or overhead wires, but signals could instantly be sent around the globe and information became readily accessible for everyone.

In the 1960’s men flew to the moon in glorified soda cans and for the first time walked on a foreign celestial body. It is a feat that has not been duplicated in nearly FORTY years.

Nearly all of today’s technology is just the repackaging of old tried and true inventions of the past. It may be smaller, more affordable and more pervasive but it pales in comparison to the accomplishments of previous generations.

So those born after 1980 are the beneficiaries of this legacy, and are not the creators.

And that is a very important distinction!

Richard- You make a very good point.  And, my hope is that there are still avenues out there for our youth to nurture and grow their creativity.  Because of this technology, which I love, we've also taken away a lot of the need to exercise our creative muscles.

Richard a wonderful Southern saying comes to mind. As I was reading this post I was wondering "who licked the red off your candy cane?" While you are right and it is an evolutionalrt process. I think the change is not to be belittled any more than an ameoba from the sea eventually evolving into a politician. Or wait maybe that is devolution. You see what I mean though. Yes this technology has it roots in older stuff but so does the politican in the amoeba

It is the Fathers of technology that were the smart ones.  They did everything by paper and pencil. today's tech savvy people have a computer working things out for them.
