The Joy in Your Career

“The secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.”

Pearl Buck 1892 – 1972, American Writer

As I see it . . . . . . .

The joy in your career

I had the opportunity to meet the lead singer in a very well known rock group and I get the opportunity to know him as a person.

One day as we were talking I asked him if being in the group was hard work? What he said to me initially caught me a little off guard but his answer was a keeper.

The group at the time had toured for over 15 years and was drawing big time audiences.

He told me that he enjoyed what he was doing and that he both rehearsed prepared with excellences for their shows. Their shows reflected the excellences of their preparation and rehearsal. He also said that when the group walked on to the stage they walked onto the stage to rock the house and they have it show after show, and year after year.

The joy in his career is he enjoyed what he did and never looked at it as work; he also said that puts a lot of effort in what he does.

The joy in your career is to prepare with excellences . . . . And the secret of long term success is to rock your customers with excellence and they will come back for more.

This quote is so true. It is wonderful when people find what they love to do because they all say it isn't like work.

Hi Lou, doing a good job always leaves us with satisfaction, not something we could say about a mediocre job.

Loving what you do and getting paid for it is one of life's greatest things!  I enjoyed your story of the rock star....how exciting to have had that opportunity to spend time with him.
