Stop, Drop and Roll!
I don’t get a chance to see all posts, so if there is a good post, I like the fact that people reblog them. Apparently, there have been a lot of posts about politics that go to a “dark place”, Alan May’s words not mine. He mentions why he doesn’t comment on those posts and what he feels is the effect of commenting on inflammatory posts.
I agree with his conclusion. I don’t comment on political posts no matter what side they discuss. Not worth alienating a prospective client.
There have been a handful of posts, lately, that have gone to that dark place.
I know, I know, it's an election year, and we're bound to end up in that dark place every now and then. When folk start talking religion, politics, gun control, immigration or more, the flames are bound to fly.
So, what can you do to avoid being flamed (or worst yet, being the flamer?).
When you see someone scritching their igniter against the barrel of their flame-thrower, run, do not walk, to the nearest exit. Someone in one of those narsty recent posts suggested that "by your comments, you will be known" spoke the truth.
There are plenty of people out there who merely lurk their way through the blogosphere. And I use the term "lurk" in the warmest way... I love my lurkers. They don't comment, you don't even know they're there, but they read. Sometimes they're regular readers, and sometimes they just happen upon your a blog and read your comment the one time.
They don't know you from Adam (or Eve), but they will "know" you by the comment you left. And if the comment you left was 414 degrees Fahrenheit, they're going to think you're a gashole, regardless of which side you come down on the argument, and that's just not conducive to gaining business.. is it?
Careful the comments you leave in your wake, it can become your legacy.
